Silhouette Notorious Quester Central Rush 0.4

metaman 13

This deck won the 16 player tournament at GaelCon in Dublin, Ireland in October 2014.

Fun factor: This is a very fun to play deck, which finally allowed me get Notoriety to work. As a bonus you also get to see the surprise in your opponents face, when you score an agenda with Quest Completed. If you do pull off a win, your opponents will be delighted, because you had the balls to try something different, instead of Andromeda ;)

Main idea: Run on HQ, expose a card in a remote server. If it is an agenda, find a way to access the card. Either deny the corp the resources to rez any ice protecting the agenda, or make runs on R&D and archives to trigger Quest Completed. Alternatively, if it is a trap or not worth running, make your own agenda points with Notoriety, of which you can pull off up to two in one turn, thanks to Doppelgänger.

What to expose: You want to make a lot of runs on HQ to trigger Silhouettes ability of exposing a card. The primary target for exposing are advanced cards in a server. Next in line are un-advanced cards in a server. If those are not available check out some un-rezzed ice on centrals, to gather some intelligence on the remaining defences. If you check ice on a remote, maybe its to expensive to rest to protect an agenda later. If you check ice on a central, that allows you to check if your ice breaker suite fits the challenge or to do some math for your triple runs. And you will do a lot of math with this deck!

Economy: Straight up Magnum Opus. You will need that money for all the runs. (Math!) Thats why you will need the MU from Doppelgänger sooner than later. On the flip side, use Account Siphon, Emergency Shutdown and Forged Activation Orders to deny the corp money to rez their ice. Feint is also basically an economy card, because the corp will heavily ice up their HQ, and Feint just makes it a lot cheaper to have a successful HQ run.

Ice breakers: You are going all-in on central only breakers, because Alias, Breach and Passport provide really good value. Cheap to install, easy to pump, and Breach eats NEXT barriers. If you can, keep a Special Order in hand against ice destruction and Will-O-The-Wisp.

Plan B: Important: Do not tell your opponent that you have no other ice breaker for remotes. They are just waiting for you to install some AI breaker, which would be a huge tempo hit. Instead, try to deny them economy to rez the ice on agendas, or shut down the ice after the HQ run with Emergency Shutdown. Last resort is the single Inside Job, save this for the end game as a surprise.

Utility cards: If no agendas get installed for a while, play a Legwork to clean out HQ. Mr. Li gives you the card draw that you need to get all the pieces of the different combos to pull of your Silhouette manoeuvres. Alternatively try Express Delivery if you like that better. Plascrete Carapace for floating tags, as you wont really have time to clear them. If you think your opponent is playing glacier style, an early Unscheduled Maintenance is nice, but not essential.

What to mulligan for: Ideally you want some card draw (Mr. Li or Special Order) and economy (Magnum Opus or Sure Gamble), with an ice breaker and some funky events.

Room for improvement: Things to try out, up to "First Contact."

  • Add the third Mr. Li, to make sure he shows up for the party.
  • Cut the two Forged Activation Orders, they were meant for the ice on remotes which I would never run anyway. Instead add a third Legwork and a second Inside Job.
  • Cut the third Notoriety. Its more of a late game plan-B against fast advance, to take the initiative back to you.
  • Instead, include another way to support your game plan. Ideas for that: Femme Fatale or Sneakdoor Beta or Same Old Thing
  • Cut the two Unscheduled Maintenance to cut the deck back to 40. They are nice if you play them early against glacier, otherwise nobody plays more than one ice per turn after the first turn anyway.

Acknowledgements: All the people at the GaelCon 2014 tournament were super-fun, relaxed and fair. Thanks for the great experience!
