Nurculur Nurbula v2 (3-0 sw, 0-1 cut at Denver Megacity)

heliopolix 27

This is the first time I've made the top cut at an event, and only my second tournament ever. I took an evolution of the deck I took to Summer Showdown.

Lots of operations to flip Nebula from the better side to the best side. Can use an archived Petty Cash to flip if there is a sudden drought in HQ.

Lots of taxing ICE to keep Nebula flipped. N-Pot and Doomscroll are excellent when positioned outermost vs Bankhar.

Operation + ICE HQ + ICE R&D is an ideal opening.

While flipped, try to FA out the 3/1 and 3/2s, using:

  • Petty Cash in archives (cheap & secure, archives disruption is rare) Touch-ups (disrupts runner hands)
  • Business as Usual (also advances Mestnichestvo and/or purges)
  • Key Performance Indicators (flexible, can stack ice while FA)
  • Sudden Commandment (combo tool, enables FA even unflipped from threat 3, or FA the 4/2 while flipped)

Scoring Next Big Thing is not the plan. Can boldly jam early in a remote behind one of the numerous gearchecks, if you read that your opponent doesn't have an immediate answer. Losing one early is neutral at worst, since it pushes threat and gives you draw.

Threat 2, 3 and 4 are the important thresholds. The faster the game advances to them, the more tools you have and the less time the runner has to set up.

  • N-Pot from threat 2 & 4.
  • Business as Usual & Sudden Commandment from threat 3.
  • Measured Response from threat 4.

If the runner steals too many of the 3/2s, then it's time to pivot to murder. Touch-ups into Measured Response can kill with a good hand read. Installing Mestnichestvo ensures you always have a Touch-ups target.

From threat 3, if you've scored 2 points, there is a combo kill that can catch the runner by surprise. Sometimes there are successful runs on archives, or a Spin Doctor, or a NBT (that one alone sets up threat 3). A successful run that doesn't unflip Nebula is required for the combo: Install a 3/2. Sudden Commandment into Touch-ups. Pay for the extra click. Get extra click from Nebula. Manually advance, scoring to threat 4. Criteria now met: Measured Response.

This costs 11 credits. You can use an archived Petty Cash (effectively clickless) to gain 2 credits, and a BaU or KPI instead of the manual advance to save 1 credit, but these extra pieces aren't necessary, only lowering the starting credit threshold. Of course, if the runner is on 3 or fewer cards in hand (feeling safe on threat 3), then the combo expands to using Sudden Commandment + any FA operation from hand, instead of relying on Touch-ups.
