Short Circuit 1.5 (Preston 2015 store champ winner)

metagaia 260

This is the winning runner deck from the Preston 2015 store champ, winning 3 of its 5 games.

The deck is based on Dave Hoyland's ideas on Leela Patel, but tweaked with Order and Chaos cards and my own personal preferences. The deck essectially is Criminal good stuff, with Leela's ability to hammer the weakest of HQ and R&D for heavy damage, bouncing any agenda the corp tries to score in a remote as a result. I am bad at playing against shell game decks, and Leela's ability means I can often ignore that game and just hammer the centrals, bouncing any advanced card.

Stars of the deck:

Cerberus "Rex" H2: This card is excellent, especially when Passport is already down. A large number of corporations fall into the trap of assuming their remote is safe before this drops onto the table, only for this and inside job to get me in.

Three Steps Ahead: This is the criminal's Day Job, netting 8 credits with Desperado out, another two with Security Testing, and even more if the runs are ones you were going to make anyway.

Cards that could be changed:

Utopia Shard: This card has done less than I was hoping it would do. It works in theory as a Scorched Earth defense, but in practice it is too unreliable. Jackson Howard's ubiquity also means that it does not always snag agendas either. This slot could easily be a Day Job, Datasucker or Stimhack, though I am leaning towards Datasucker for Power Shutdown defense.

Inside Job: I think 3 x might be pushing it a bit, as corporations are much better at playing around this card than they used to be. I am currently thinking that 2 x Inside Job and 1 x John Masanori is probably a better balance.

Great adaptation, I like it. Congrats on the win!

Interesting that you don't think Utopia was doing enough for you. I've found that it works best especially when they have Jackson out. It basically makes it so they can't do too big of a dig, otherwise they risk discarding more agendas to archives than they can shuffle back into their deck. Overall though, another solid list. Love seeing Leela winning tournaments :)

HQ tends to be very protected against Leela, making it quite difficult to land casually, and forcing me to pay the 7 credit install cost. While I think it is a good card, I now think it is suited to Shapers more, as they can get the install cost for "free" more easily.

Thank you for your kind words though :-)
