"Back to Basics" Kate German Nationals

Alsciende 1404

Played by Sebastian Barth to 1st place at German Nationals, 12.10.2013

Quoted from Sebastian (http://bgg.cc/blogpost/23939/german-nationals-report):

This deck basically performs a three punch combo for the knockout

Left jab: Rush decks are popular and strong these days imho, so you hit their remotes with Crypsis fueled by Magnum Opus. Crypsis can crack almost any early game server and most corps don't like that. Just ask yourself, do you like to see Crypsis on turn 2 or 3?

Right cross: once they realize they need extra defense on their remote, you pummel their HQ with Account Siphon after Account Siphon keeping those tags in most matchups. You invest this money in a proper breaker suite and a bit extra equipment since Closed Accounts is a thing.

Left hook: After they scraped their last pennies together in order to shore up their HQ weaknesses, you start doing what Shapers do best... Get a bazillion points from R&D. Indexing is key here, this coupled with Makers Eye is like a 1-2-punch of their own.

The only corp deck that day to withstand the pressure and win was during the final round after I already secured first place ;)

This is probably my favourite runner deck currently. It has a pretty stable performance against most corp set ups I played against. As mentioned by Sebastian it drains a lot of cash by threatening all the servers almost equally. It does require a lot of decision taking through every single round, though.

With the coming H&P expansion I will likely exchange -1 Account Siphon for +2 Legworks. I was also testing the following variations with promising results: -1 Akamatsu Mem Chip / +1 Dyson Mem Chip -1 Quality Time / +1 All-nighter -1 Self-Modyfing Code / +1 Test Run -1 Magnum Opus / +1 Prepaid VoicePAD

Thanks for posting!

WIth only a few changes, this is my competition deck. I keep tempo up and avoid wasting cards by using modded. Massive draw for siphon/SoT/attack events can draw hardware or programs you want to install. Modded + kate keeps all but the biggest (toolbox) to 1 credit. Overdraw crypsis and modded? 1 credit, crypsis is yours. Thats almost no tempo loss. Turn 1 modded + mopus is sexy too.

I think I cut 1 maker's 1 indexing and escher for this, since I hardly ever feel good using escher. Otherwise this is identical, and it is amazing. I'm still discovering this deck's tricks every time I play it.
