Dain Bramage - Fun Deck for Cambridge Regionals 2015

Zouavez 156

This is the deck I brought to the 2015 Cambridge Regionals. See my runner deck here:

http://netrunnerdb.com/en/decklist/22163/double-double-toil-and-trouble-fun-deck-cambridge-2015

I haven't been able to play as often as I like, and never before with this ID, but it performed surprisingly well. With some tuning, I think this could be even better.

Win Conditions:

-Mushin out Cerebral Overwriter and kill with Neural

-Mushin out Mandatory Upgrades and fast-advance 3 more agendas

Strategy:

This deck was difficult to build because there were so many cards that fit with the strategy (Ryon Knight, False Lead, etc) but not within the smaller deck size. I decided to focus the deck on Mushin threats since I haven't been seeing any expose or hand size increasing. The goal is to get the runner make the tough choice: Do they run the unprotected Mushin card? If you think they will, try to make it a Cerebral Overwriter. This will cripple their options for the rest of the game and make it much easier to kill with some combination of Self-Destruct Chips, Neural EMP, Archives Memories, or damaging ice. If you think the runner won't run the Mushin card (most often the runner decides to leave it alone and focus on centrals), you can score a Mandatory Upgrades. ManUp allows you to fast advance agendas and make more money. If unsure about the runner's tendancy to run or not, here is a prioritized list of Mushin targets:

  1. Mandatory Upgrades - Can score in 2 turns
  2. Project Vitruvius - Can use counters to get back Neural EMP and economy
  3. Cerebral Overwriter - Can set up a kill
  4. Other Agendas

Most of my wins were due to an early Mushin ManUp. My losses were to a deck that had Feedback Filter (prevents brain damage) and a deck that had Box-E (+2 hand size).

Strengths:

I brought this deck just for fun, but it turned out surprisingly powerful. This deck's biggest strength is the increased threat from Cerebral Overwriter and its resulting ability to score out ManUp in 2 turns.

Weaknesses:

Like many niche decks, it can fall apart if teched against. Even a single Feedback Filter can remove the pressure advantage.

Matchups:

Prepaid Kate: Decent enough against one of the strongest runner decks

Valencia: Strong, you don't really care about Blackmail with Mushin servers

Noise: Strong, Overadvanced Vitruvius and archived memories really help

Whizzard: Strong, you only have 4 relevant cards

Andromeda: Weak, she can get out the right tech cards early

Changes:

I would definitely change the ice suite, taking out Chimera, and maybe 1 or 2 Fenris. Ichi 1.0 was MVP since his usually useless trace is much more threatening in this deck. I added Green Level just to have more economy, but I don't like how it works with the 4 hand size.

Let me know if you try it out and have any suggestions!

Hey, I think I played against you! I was the Kit with Study Guide. Your deck was super interesting and almost fried my ass.

Pretty sure I played against you as well! I was the stealth Kit in round 3. Definitely a fan of this deck. Mushin is always scary.

I actually like Green Level Clearance in Cybernetics decks. Sure you only have a 4 card hand, but its not going to make you exceed that (it just replaces itself) and it gets you money, which HB decks outside of ETF have a serious issue with in my experience.

Would you think adding more Adonis or Eve campaigns would help? I feel naked (heh) without 3 of one or the other in most HB decks I build.

Overall I really like the build! Glad its working out!

@skydivingninja It does replace itself, but the most common situation is 4 cards at start of turn + mandatory draw. GLC makes it so you have to install/play a non GLC card if you want to avoid discarding, for example, a Neural EMP. Playing GLC over Adonis/Eve was a meta choice, the Cambridge regional ended up having 11 Whizzard players!
