Supplier Quetzal

R2-DTAT 19

I had an idea for this deck for a long time but never got around to actually building it until about 2 weeks ago. Our local gamestore had a game night tournament and the concept of the deck did well but it really lacked economy. I had to install a lot of stuff and I only had sure gambles, armitages, and day jobs.

Also, expect a wall of text because I'll be describing how this deck works, my experience with it at a local regionals, and my suggestions on improvement.

So I decided to build and play this deck variant because I knew I used Adjusted Chronotype to get back clicks from Wyldside and was also running Earthrise Hotel so I said "Hey, why not run The Supplier ?" After a game or two I could plainly see the results of my changes. Getting it for free or minimal cost was excellent when I hardly needed the card that turn anyway. Things like my card draw did nothing to benefit me in the middle of my turn.

This deck is strong against glacier because quetzal can be used to break barriers for free and once you have e3 Feedback Implants out, nothing big or small can stop you... until you hit another barrier behind that one. But that's why you have corroder and the breaker suite.

HB ice is usually worthless once you also have E3 out because you can just click through one subroutine and then break the rest with E3. D4v1d can take care of the big ice and once it's on London Library there's little the corp can do to stop you since you essentially have 3 counters on D4v1d each turn.

I replaced day jobs with Kati because I wanted to do other things on my turn and not just sit there and gain a lot of money. I needed to play things on supplier or risk losing cards. Plus sometimes I play wyldside even though I don't have chronotype to get started.

The Gene Qianju B combo was put in to help not using autoscripter, which is what other people play when using london library. Otherwise, having an extra click is just good.

I took this to the New Orleans Regionals and went 3-2. I played against a NEXT design deck, RP, ETF, Argus, and NEH. Some were close games and I had fun playing against them with my rig fully set up. I got lucky against ETF because he couldn't find his agendas for the longest time which was very beneficial to me. Once medium had enough counters, I ran R&D and saw 3 agendas I needed to win the game.

Argus I could've had a good chance winning against but I had trashed one of my femmes earlier because I knew that this probably wasn't a ice heavy deck. The other got trashed by meat damage from taking an agenda. He played changling and turned it into a sentry, which locked me out of R&D as Femme would have been my only solution to getting past it.

With no graveyard recursion or other options available, all I could do was run against his HQ, which proved to be fruitless and I had used one of my wantons earlier. Changling also stopped me in a scoring server he set up to score his last point. Ugh.

The NEH I played against was a butcher shop variant. I played wanton first turn to get rid of cards. Ran archives next turn to steal a NAPD. Next turn he midseasons me, which is absolutely horrible for this deck to begin with with all it's resources, and then traffic accident scorched earth me. RIP Quetzal.

I've thought of a few card suggestions to potentially improving this deck:

  • Cutlery Suite/Parasite: What's better than breaking through ice? Getting rid of them so you don't have to pay more money! Jinteki ice like tsurugi or komainu are effective against me because I have to spend more money than what I want to do on a ice with mimic. Forked or Knifed would be a good idea, but it's hard to use if you don't have Planned Assault to tutor it out for the best situation and also it's hard to justify taking out slots for 2 events you may not even use. I don't care about Spooned because Yog is great. Still, when you're up against RP and he has 3 eli's rezzed on r&d, knifed is great when using medium. Although it's nice to be able to bounce off of something so you can run the scoring server.

Parasite is a good answer overall and I could run Deja vu/Clone Chip to recur it or other things I need, but Lotus field is the corp's best answer to my deck which is why I'm thinking of running...

  • Net-Ready Eyes: Even as a one of, using this for any of my icebreakers would save me a credit on corroder, or just bridge the gap between yog/mimic and the 4 strength ice. My only answer is femme on london library, but that also takes up 6 influence. Femme is great against mother goddess, excalibur, and if I just don't happen to have d4v1d, but I didn't use either, even for d4v1d during regionals. But I always had the option against face checking ice and it was good for me. I do remember using it for yog one time to get around his install cost. I'm a bit torn between using the great Sexy Librarian combo or replacing it with something else. I think I'll continue to use it for now and see what it yields.

Atman is too expensive for me to install. Darwin wouldn't be the worst idea but it would just give the corp more incentive to wipe virus counters. Knight could be an option, but it can get trashed by the corp installing over that ice with the same ice.

I also don't want to use any global strength reducing cards like Ice Carver or Scrubbed because of Lotus field and it could mess with d4v1d. Data sucker would be the ideal solution, but again, Lotus field. Looking for something universal and that is Net Ready Eyes.

  • Imp/Clot/NEH tech: In the end I decided not to put in any because I didn't expect to see a lot of NEH in the meta. Which I didn't get paired up against many because there were more glacier/flatline types in the tournament I was participating and I thought that clot would just push NEH down to the lower brackets with how many anarch/shapers there were.

  • Liberated Account: I didn't want to put this in here just because it's expensive, but it gives me more credits and can be put on the supplier. I don't think I would want to replace these with all 3 armitages because armitage is good for early game economy. Maybe I could replace a Kati and an armitage with 2 Liberated, or just replace Kati altogether with an armitage to have 3?

Kati worked well for me but for any runner, the faster you get your economy the better, So I may end up replacing Kati for these.

Also, I like Hard at Work, but I would have to do some rearranging with my deck. I could either have everything set up with Joshua B giving me 4 clicks in total, or put in an Aesops to get rid of Wyldside. I think Daily Casts would be better overall.

  • Paige Piper: This would help reduce the number of multiples in my deck when I install, thereby making my draws more likely to give me things I need and not just something I already have. I would need to put 2 in to make it worth it for draw consistency.

Thank you for reading.
