Peddling Stealth Equipment (No money-back guarantee!)

While we have seen some various great Stealth builds for Hayley so far, an area where she really excels at, she can sometimes still feel a little bit too slow and clunky setting up. Street Peddler is going to make Hayley decks faster and much more stable! The drawbacks are marginal to non-existent in the right decks. You can read a whole article about that card over at stimhack.com from vinegarymink, the UK National champion. It deserves the praise.

In Hayley it's even better for two reasons:

  • Install a card in the corps turn to profit (again) from Hayleys ability.

  • Install during a run to possibly get two new cards into play for some surprise action. Get your breakers out or drop two RDIs right before accessing. Serious Shaper bullshit, you gotta love it!

Looking at various Stealth decklists and playtesting a lot, esp. right after 'The Underway', I found that the lists with Resource based economy really worked best. The only thing I didn't like was waiting for the few Career Fair targets to hit my hand or feeling a bit grumpy playing out a discounted Kati or Visage for a meager 2 saving. This never really clicked for me.

Efficiency by simplification

Trying to streamline the deck even further, I cut redundant cards like extra , Atman and the aforementioned Career Fair play. You simply don't need the last Cloak on board, this is often just some endgame dream. Most of the time I had stupid amounts of Ghost Runner credits left at the end of the game, it's not a big deal with Dagger and Refractor. I don't think that Atman as a safety and economy tool is really needed, I never missed it.

Influence

I opened up Influence for an HQ Interface to add some pressure in that regard. I don't think that Switchblade is worth the Influence. You don't see enough Sentries to warrant the possible savings, and if you see a lot in one deck, you sometimes would have hoped you had Dagger instead. You could also play with Utopia Shard for some kind of HQ pressure and add one Stimhack, works pretty well in conjunction with the Peddler. Though Shard on Peddler would be sad.

Flex cards

The second Plascrete, and sometimes one RDI are my personal current flex slots. I often feel that she could even use some more (draw) speed setting up, because why not? You can tinker around and integrate what you want most for your Meta: more draw/setup speed, economy or safety cards. Hell, you can even add one Akamatsu Mem Chip if you really believe in the Cloaks and want more to better play around Self-modifying Code.

Why play Hayley?

She has solid matchups against a wide array of decks and she is the very queen of Shaper shenanigans. The Identity ability seems simple enough, but is actually very different from e.g. Kate and fun to play in reality, because it encourages a new (non Event-based) deckbuilding approach. A standard Stealth-Hayley is unparalleled in setup speed and run efficiency. If you haven't tried a Stealth rig yet, you should give her a shot!

Might make sense to shift influence a bit of caches, but given that 9 things in the deck would fit naturally with Aesop's, 2 of him might be worth of an include.

@sruman Econ is not a problem, nevertheless Aesops seems to be a bit out of place anyway. Daily for +1 is meh, a single Ghost Runner is often pretty much worth more (and you shouldn't waste them carelessly) and Armitage seems to be the only target.

Glad to see people tinkering around with my Hayley build :) Street Peddler is definitely a fun card in Hayley so I'll probably try it out myself too. I would definitely cut the third RDI for a third Clone Chip though, on the off chance you get 2 important programs stuck on Peddler, and because program trashing decks look to become popular again (hello Batty!)

@NicoleyMoley And I'm glad for the solid core you provided. One RDI for another Clone Chip seems reasonable, on the other hand you can't really utilize them well otherwise (except Clot) without Lady and Parasite. I'm a little bit hesistant, but it's most likely the safer choice. Any other advise regarding , Atman or whatnot? Thanks for drivin' by (killing my Batty) ;)

@jawZ I agree that Clone Chip doesn't have as much utility as in other decks but from experience I'd definitely want 3 if there was any added risk of having my rig trashed. Even with 2 of them, one of the few losses I've had with my deck was due to hitting an Ichi and losing 2 programs and not finding either of my clone chips to salvage the situation in time. They're also pretty useful early on to reinstall SMCs to find your rig and Cloaks even faster.

I'd keep the extra mem chip, just because you really need to see at least the 5th memory pretty early to support SMCs and Cloaks in addition to your rig, and the 6th memory is really nice to have too. I think it'll make it more consistent.

I personally like the Atman and would keep it as a back up but I like playing it safe (still haven't cut Deus X from my Kate deck!) so I can understand why you'd choose to cut it. I've never needed to install it myself but I like being prepared for everything, and having an AI breaker on board means you can break any ice the corp throws at you.

I am a little concerned that Peddler might not be right for this deck because of the amount of hardware you want to install. Additionally, because Kati is the only long term economy the deck has I'd be wary of losing too many resources either if the game goes long. I see most of my deck nearly every game and play most of cards I see so I'm not convinced Peddler is right over Career Fair, but I'll definitely try it out!

@NicoleyMoley Don't be worried, it's fantastic. Just try it out. I can understand the econ concern. You are correct if you think that you often drop one or two econ cards per game, since you prefer gettting the breaker or stealth chip. Peddler is a bit econ itself, though I understand we are talking long term economy respectively endgame state now. But the faster you go, the earlier you reach your endgame state. This translates to economy as well, don't you think? Something that CF+EH could do as well, but now you are speeding up the game without combo needs or the possible tempo hit playing Hotel without a discount. We both know how good cheap and useful cards are for Hayley.

Don't make the mistake and think about most cards trashed as wasted cards, you should treat them as cards you would have not seen otherwise. You will draw the other cards in your deck instead, and there is econ etc. as well, but you picked the essential card you wanted/needed beforehand, so that's a plus. It esp. improves the faster matchups, something I really wanted for this deck, without a huge downside for the longer games. I still believe that Peddlers downside is marginal in this deck and overall it just feels solid against everything now. Surprise Clot/Plascrete from Peddler is fun btw xD

Let's say you average 2 Peddler plays a game (maybe a little more), losing about 3 cards you would have played otherwise, but also cards you pretty much don't need (anymore/in that matchup). Don't get the feeling that you are losing so much, actually you are gaining a lot more. Speed and the option to play what you really need. If you are super unlucky you may lose a breaker (you can clone chip out) or a stealth chip, but that has never been an issue so far. Career Fair is a good card for Hayley, don't get me wrong, but 5 targets are not enough imho. The current Whizzard is playing 9! with 2 or 3 CFs.

Thanks for the input so far, really enjoy discussing this with you!

@jawZ Yeah, I understand the logic behind Peddler and agree it's a brilliant card, I'm just a little hesitant about it in this specific deck because I often see and play my whole deck in most of my games. I will give it a try though and see which I prefer. I've never found myself with not enough targets for CF in my deck though, but maybe because it doesn't bother my a huge amount playing it on 2 cost resources if I've nothing else in hand.

Anyway, glad you're enjoying the deck archetype and I hope you have a good time playing with it!
