Who Runs Oaktown? Corporate Town Runs Oaktown! 1.1

So here's my current Blue Sun deck, which I've had some pretty reasonable success with at the last few small tournaments here in Toronto, with a solid fourth place in a 18 player tourney the other night. Every game a flatline.

By far the most important things that make this deck work is the variety of ICE, the yellow assets, and the SEA Source / Scorched Earth package.

ICE:

  • Changeling. I love changeling. Never underestimate this ICE's ability to tax and stop when you need it to while still not being easily susceptible to parasite. Double points for being able to tax datasuckers with it if you make it a sentry.

  • Little Engine. Great ICE, and a perfect fit in Blue Sun. Use it when the runner is poor or lacking datasucker tokens, or just use it as an easy way to tax D4V1D tokens to make sure your Curtain Walls fire later on. If the runner starts abusing its third sub, just pop it back and toss it.

  • Archer. Only a singleton, but always a good target for Oversight AI or the hostile takeovers that you're going to be firing off. A good surprise over archives.

  • Grim. Usual Blue Sun tech. A good surprise after a runner has burned all their datasuckers and D4V1D tokens in the late game.

  • Taurus. Always a good taxing sentry for those who love hardware.

  • Lotus Field. I think this is a flex slot. Lotus Field just isn't want it used to be. You might want a swordsman or something else to deal with Faust.

Assets:

  • Daily Business Show. want your tools? Get them faster. Simple. Great in Blue Sun if you have put it snugly behind a Curtain Wall earlier on.

  • Blacklist. Grab it with Executive Boot Camp, hide it behind a curtain wall. Watch the runner blow 15 creds to just it.

  • Corporate Town. Finally, another target for those hostile takeovers. Hide it behind a tollbooth and a curtain wall and watch runners lose their resources, slowly, one at a time. This fires for me QUITE often, but beware: it doesn't win the game for you. It's a tactical tool, use it when it makes sense and don't rez it unless it's protected AND can do a lot of work. You want runners to either run and trash it, losing maybe up to 20 creds OR for them to resign themselves to its endless presence in the game. I'm really happy with it. This is a great asset for Weyland. Top tier.

I think that this deck is great but it's also very meta independent. The meta here in TO is heavy into anarchs for the time being and there's been a lot of midseasons based kill decks. These runners have been playing it smart and making sure to only score when they have the creds to keep them safe. This deck excels in taxing even the most perfunctory of runs, and in the process keeps the runner within SEA Source range. Helps that it's hard to know if you're playing a vegan build of Blue Sun or not until you actually see the combo cards.

That being said, I've played a number of matchups against some current, draw heavy Faust builds and they really turn off a lot of the abilities that make this deck work. If you're worried about vamp and Faust, think of another deck. If you're playing against a lot of criminal or good stuff Anarchs though, it's going to be really solid. It does decently against Pre-Paid Kate decks, but you're going have difficulty scoring out. Try to just tire out their draw and economic engine before going for the score or kill.
