The Hunger Games

Glitch 385

When Apex and all of his cards were first shown, I was blown away by the sheer power. Endless Hunger is absolutely insane and efficient, Apocalypse can be devastating when timed properly, you see where I'm going here. I immediately started jotting down deck ideas and strategies, trying to go all in on as much disruption as I could cram into the deck. Cutlery events, Wanton Destruction, Account Siphon, Parasite, etc. but while building this, I started to notice all of Apex's weaknesses. Multi-sub ice will quickly tax you, difficult economy package without non-virtual resources, all non-etr ice and card draw. I took the deck apart and started building to cover these weaknesses.

First, the breaker suite. Do you add a ton of extra MU to fit an entire rig in? While it's not a terrible idea, I don't feel it fits Apex. I felt he wants a cheap, quick and efficient rig. e3 Feedback Implants is obvious when paired with Endless Hunger, and also a perfect partner for Faust, which also eleviates some of the economy pressure. You're already trashing installed cards, who cares about your hand? I added Mimic to help deal with Architect, especially after you play Apocalypse.

After I covered my rig, I planned for my economy. Wasteland, Sure Gamble and Dirty Laundry are all influence free, so they go in. I then had to ask myself, do I use precious influence on more economy? I had to stop and think of what he needs his economy for. I made sure his rig was super cheap, both to install and use, all of the in faction cards are also very cheap to play. So what I need most of my economy for is to use E3. Ghost Runner became an auto-include, and it synergizes perfectly with Wasteland.

Then I moved onto card draw/recursion. Quality Time was super cheap on influence, refilled my hand, and perfectly sets up Faust for an important Apocalypse turn. Levy AR Lab Access I feel is almost mandatory for Apex for the late game. I went with Déjà Vu over Clone Chip so I could get back an important Levy that may have been discarded to Hunting Grounds or rogue damage before Heartbeat hits the table.

I went with the Interfaces over event multi-access due to the lack of Same Old Thing. I know Apocalypse will rid my board of the Interfaces, but I realized that not every game I play will require me to reset the board. Just the threat of Apocalypse I feel is enough to keep the corp from going all in on installations.

Q-Coherence Chip was added for cheap MU in case I need both Faust and Mimic at the same time. Plascrete Carapace is for back up. I don't want to have to trash all of my Endless Hunger food to keep me from being flatlined by Scorched Earth.

I'm still currently testing this deck out, but so far it feels right.

This is very similar to what I'm planning on using once I get my hands on Data and Destiny. Major difference is three Clone Chips over 1x faust, 1x deja vu and 1x R&D Interface, mostly because I want to be able to trigger Wastelands on my opponent's turn with something other than Hunting Grounds :P

apex is still quite confusing to me. Can someone tell me if u can install facedown an event card? i think i read somewhere that non-active card still have type, so probably no, but what if i trash hunting ground and one of the card is an event?

You can install any card from your hand facedown. All facedown cards lose their text and type and basically become "blank". AKA only good for Apex's abilities.

@Glitch Have you considered Cache? At only 1 inf a pop, its 2 credits immediately, and then 3 more when you fodder it for endless hunger with wastelands in play. You can also bring them back in pairs with deja vu, so it seems like an all around amazing deal.

@IonFox I had considered it while trying to come up with economy solution, I mean, who doesn't want a pseudo Aesop's Pawnshop, right? I decided against it because I didn't want to have to add more cards that contribute to MU. I'm also not sure where I could free up the three influence.
