Valencia's Film Source

AkAnderson 484

Afterv messing around with Film Critic a lot in Andy, @Heartthrob and I wanted to find ways to make it even more powerful. This deck is where I ended up. I believe the Source and NACH really shine with it. You'll never get Midseasoned, SEA can't get you, nor can Breaking News or Posted Bounty.

The reasons I believe this works best in Valencia are many. First, you've got Blackmail in addition to the Source to keep the Corp slow enough as you set up. Next, her extra deck size makes Faust have more cards to chew on when you hammer RnD. Being Anarch gives you access to the delicious Pancakes as well.

Influence choices besides Source and Film Critic- Box-E to keep the handsize up for Faust. Career Fair gets those resources in play (I will be switching one for a third FC), Lucky Find is money, Fall Guy keeps anything up (Mainly the Source).

So far in playing it, I can see the deck losing if the Corp gets off to a blazing start or if you're trying to find Film Critic. Give it a try, lemme know what you think

Ok hackers stop what your doing. Build this deck and win. After throwing tier one RP, butcher, and blue sun at val she just TORE IT UP and laughed while doing it. This deck is good on so many levels.

Q fuerte amigo. Viva Valencia!

Your version > my version. So I will steal some of your ideas for mine.

Steal away! I really think this deck has the ability to be top tier. It's super strong and puts such an unbalanced lock on the Corp.

Seems like a bad time for those SEA-Old Hollywood-FA Titan decks to get popular. This deck wrecks all three strategies.

With an early Source and fall guy fastro shuts down too!!

Are you concerned by the lack of recursion, particularly in regards to Blackmail?

16 Aug 2015 AkAnderson

@W4lt3r B15h0p Not necessarily. Blackmail is there to keep the Corp uneasy about setting up a remote while you assemble the combo. Also with Deja Vu and Trope, you'll likely see Blackmail enough

@AkAnderson gotcha. I see what your are doing. Makes sense.

I ran this today in a tournament and it did well, though it seemed to take a while to get going. I ran to time a few times with it. The recursion is fine with Blackmail. Just leave one in the heap when you Trope so the deja vus have a good target when they come back. I did stall a few times money wise and while that may be unfamiliarity with a new deck, a Stimhack might go a long way in this deck. Also some sort of dedicated code breaker, since Turing and IQ are super pains.

@jgoahl glad it did well for ya. I've also come to find that you give up early game in order to control the late. I do also find myself clicking for creds, which I've gotten used to from playing Pacer's Noise deck. I feel ya on the codegate breaker also, but in my playing I've found Faust and D4V1D to be enough. That's interesting to note that you went to time, do you have any ideas on how to speed it up? I'm open to all suggestions

i was playing Whizzard with the Film Critic/New Angeles City Hall combo to great effect. With more than 50 cards anyway, I just switched over to Valencia and thought I had a nice setup.

But just looking at this, the addition of The Source is exactly the card I realise I needed to fight against my deck's one weakness - fast advance.

I definitely agree with putting a third Film Critic in. Because it isn't unique, it means you can have multiple out and you're never in a rush to take the agenda off. Also means you don't really fear deep Medium digs.

Gonna try this out immediately, but I am fairly sure just looking at it that this is gonna be the basis of a top tier deck!

@Rodge glad you've got the same idea as we do! Let me know how your testing goes. This is where I'm at currently: -1 Career Fair, -2 Queens Gambit, -1 Faust, +1 Film Critic, +2 Hacktivist Meeting, +1 Yog.

The deck is really click intensive, so ELP hurts and I like Hactivist against BBG HB decks and RP.

When you add an agenda to your score area with Film Critic does it trash The Source?

19 Aug 2015 AkAnderson

@Leviathan It sure doesn't, nor does it trash New Angeles City Hall. That's the beauty of the deck, the Corp is hindered and pressured while you're not.

19 Aug 2015 Leviathan

@AkAnderson Ah! I see. I guess I never really realized that runners don't score agendas, they only steal them. However, when the corp scores an agenda then The Source is trashed. But that's what multiples and Fall Guy are for. Damn, that's sweet.... I'm taking this one to my FLGS game night tonight. :)

Does Film Critic prevent Hacktivist Meeting from being trashed? Not sure if adding an agenda to your score area counts as scoring or not...

19 Aug 2015 AkAnderson

@Rainey it does not count as scoring, that's how you get around Midseasons, Argus, etc. It wouldn't trash on your side, either way, only the Corp can get rid of it.

@Leviathan Give it a try! Let me know what you think. Don't get too worried if the Corp scores early, as long as you close that window you control the late game.

@AkAnderson, I've given this a try and it really is a great basis for a deck.

Tweaks I've made - I dumped the Lucky Find as I needed the influence for another Film Critic (seriously - this card is a 3-off in every deck I'll ever have again). Also, the Queen's Gambit both went in return for Daily Casts. I get one less money overall - but save a click and can even combine with the Career Fair if cards come out of order.

Trope is very nice and always gets installed instantly, it just gets better the longer it sits there.

Now that Film Critic makes The Source and New Angeles City Hall both ultra-viable. The Source even shuts down fast advance, forcing Near-Earth Hub to have to install some agendas. I think this is going to make cards like Caprice Nisei completely mandatory in future for all corps. It's also got me thinking of dropping in a one-off Exposé in corp, just to defend against my own runner deck!!!

Played against the advanced version of this last night. I was running a making news tagstorm. The whole game I only landed one tag, off of a breaking news, and that was by luck. This deck SUCKS to play against. Good work guys.

@Bigguyforyou518 Hey, I wanted to reply to your comment on that Iain thread but didn't want to highjack it. This deck loooooves the game to go long. From about mid to late game, you are totally in control and most corps end up scooping because they have no answers to your board state.
