Bread and Butthurt 1.0

Dumon 2

First try of a jinteki deck. The 6-agenda approach had me already about a year ago, and after a 12 month abstinence period, it was time to pick up the pieces and get this one back on track.

Global Food Initiative is a godsend for this deck, as it makes achieving a win for the runner a little harder. I killed the 3 Priority Requisition the previous iteration had. Also, I replaced one The Future Perfect with Utopia Fragment. Granted, this will not see play that often, but when it does, scoring the next agenda afterwards is child's play.

Shifted a few things back and forth

  • Interns had to go, providing the space for Snare! and a third Jackson Howard

  • Caprice Nisei got cut down to two copies, because I so wanted to run at least one Marcus Batty instead.

  • Self-destruct is now in here as a redundancy. With a well-secured Archives, and together with Jackson, killing a whole server before a run could simply end the whole thing I found not only hilarious, but also a neat way to go. Probably unnecessary, though. It replaced the one copy of Akitaro Watanabe I was running.

  • 2 Bastion, a Hive and a Snowflake are gone, replaced by 3 Quicksand, which I find quite useful. It is possible, though, that they are not strong enough in the long run.

  • 1 Tollbooth was cut, due to Influence Points problems (why does GFI has to be so expensive?), and I wanted to keep my Punitive Counterstrike

  • 1 Inazuma was replaced by Lockdown, although I think I might go back to Inazuma (even if it is expensive) - it is quite the necessity for cards like Komainu etc.

  • 2 Guard, 2 Shinobi and 1 Tsurugi got cut, to make way for the IMO better Assassin and Mamba, as well as the fun card Kitsune. I am thinking about including a second one, though that would probably need another Snare or Shi.Kyu to warrant inclusion (to make it work better).

However, the game obviously is 2 cards too big. There are a few answers as to what to cut, but I am hesitant.

Still, any thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated. As a casual gamer, I probably won't have the chance to play this one enough to really find out what works or doesn't. So your comments will most likely be invaluable for me! :)

Thanks in advance!

2 punitive ? Do you really think that may kill runner ?

My thought on Punitive: It is a way to react punishingly to the stealing of agendas. In combination with Net damage done during the run, it could probably kill. By itself - not really. Of course Plascrete is possible, but I'd say you are less inclined to play it against Jinteki. And 2 so I get to it sooner.

But you are right - meat damage probably isn't the way to go. PLUS they cost a ton of influence...

I like the idea of Punitive Counterstrike in six agenda Harmony Medtech: Biomedical Pioneer and I am toying around with something similiar. It might not kill the runner, but it will slow him down and open scoring windows. However, I think that Global Food Initiative frees you from the necessity of playing Shi.Kyū. Maybe good old Project Junebug could be an idea here; once you have scored your first agenda, the runner is more or less forced to run anything you advance. That would be one more way to kill the runner.

Project Junebug is a nice trap, for sure, but it has the flaw that it needs to be installed in order to work. It might work well as a decoy, forcing the runner to attack it, but on the other hand, if the runner has any way of revealing it, it is simply time (and money) wasted. Shi.Kyū, on the other hand, is a fantastic card in HQ and in Archives. Plus it can be activated via Kitsune - a combination I like quite a lot. The -1 Agenda Point probably is redundant, but if the Runner accesses two of those, he can score a Global Food Initiative without getting any points whatsoever... ...which is something I really like.

Maybe I'll go looking for other assets that can be activated by Kitsune...

I see you don't play mushin. I think it's very good in this kind of deck together with junebugs instead of shi.kyu's.

Hmm. Mushin No Shin is a nice card, making scoring of a new agenda a little quicker, that is true. The difference is 2 clicks and 3 credit. Might be a reason to look into it, could make the deck hell of a lot faster... However, I am still disinclined to use Junebug. Traps are something I would expect from Jinteki. And would be very careful to avoid them, as a runner. So it is a gamble whether playing them pays off or not. I think Kitsune and cards in hand are easier to trigger...
