Changwon, South Korea Random Identity - 2nd place

So, one of the things that the local players do around here is actively change up the way the tournaments are played. For clarification, a tournament here is generally no more than 16 players. North, in Seoul, I am sure there are bigger events.

That said, they either play what is called K-Mode, which is using the core set and only the data packs that have been released in Korean; namely the last cycle, or they have a random ID draw where your ID is chosen via number draw.

For this particular afternoon, I drew Quetzal and NBN: The world is yours; both of which are actually quite powerful ID's.

This deck was my first attempt at building around Faust and the deck overall has some pretty glaring weaknesses:

  • The economy absolutely depends on The Supplier
  • No Mimic and some generally weak Sentry ice can just wreck you
  • Very slow to start

That said, if you find The Supplier early'ish you can multi-access pretty much anything on the board.

Something I didn't like at first, but appreciated later was the 2x Nerve Agent. Depending on where the Corp. ices, you can let eyes on one of the programs you're running, namely Medium, Nerve Agent, or Imp, and depending on what they see, they generally take defensive measures against said program.

For instance, in one game I had a Medium under a Peddler and a Nerve Agent in my hand. I popped the Peddler for an economy card and the Corp. saw the Medium move to the trash. They then proceeded to ice up R&D the next turn. So when I dropped Nerve Agent afterwards, I was able to see 3 different cards and take an agenda. Not only that, but the inclusion of both programs means that the defense is split; the result being that neither R&D or HQ are properly defended, or that their remotes are almost completely undefended.

I don't think the economy is good and I am not sure how much I like the theoretical idea of threatening both R&D and HQ with multi-access programs, but I will say that once they are both on the board you start to see so many cards in so many places.

Thanks for reading.
