Toronto 2016 Regionals 1 st place Corp

Vikk 33

This is the corp deck that got first place at yesterday's regionals tournament held in Toronto. 41 players playing for the last time with the old MWL. If you have never seen this deck or don't understand how it can win, I refer you to this decklist : https://netrunnerdb.com/en/decklist/32381/7-point-ci . You should also check out a series of articles on the deck at www.anrnz.com which goes much more in depth about the deck. Basically the idea is to win a one turn by scoring 7 pts. Day went as follows:

Rd 1 : Won against some kind of Prepaid Kate. My opponent didn't really know how the deck worked and basically ran at the wrong time, giving the opportunity to play Power Shutdown and start the whole thing. He had An SMC on board but didn't seem to have Clot, but the combo was easily doable by purging one Clot and no SacCon.

Rd 2 : Won against Dumblefork. My opponent seemed to know that playing Employee Strike was good, He unfortunately saw it way too late and as soon as he played I fast advanced a Project Vitruvius, letting me combo out later very easily when he tried to go for a medium dig when I knew there weren't any agendas left in R&D.

Rd 3 : ID

Rd 4 : Won against Dien and his Apoc/Siphon/Keyhole MaxX. The fact that Dien thought the treshold of credits to combo was higher than it actually is allowed me to combo when he double siphoned me in one turn, landing on exactly 11 credits with all the combo pieces in hand. Whole combo ended up costing me around 9 because of Subliminal Messaging, even though I almost fucked up thinking I had an extra Jackson installed and had to install the last agenda from hand. This matchup is kind of a difficult one and Turing on your R&D is a good friend until they find Yog.

Rd 5 : Only loss of the day against Dumblefork. What is usually a good matchup went pretty sour when we both couldnt find a Jackson. I would have preferred that he trash a Jackson out of R&D, letting me Biotic Labor and Archevied memories it to start out the combo. Unfortunately, the double medium dig with the support of parasite closed the deal a turn or two before I could find the last piece of the combo.

7-3 landed me in 6th seed, and I only played my corp in Grand Finals, because of a game loss that my opponent had in round 2 of the cut.

Grand Finals : Won against Stealth Rebirth Andy. My opponent played very well, siphoning early which I was able to fend off with Reuse in my starting hand and just clicking for credits. I was able to stabilize at some point and he rightly stopped running because I would have won had he ran once. Instead I opted to install Jackson and draw out the whole deck. He was close to winning on his last turn but he made the mistake of running a 5 card R&D and archives instead of running HQ 4 times. Had he not run I would have Double biotic and drawn the rest of my deck with Jakcson, allowing me to combo without a run being made. I ultimately didn't need to but I still did it for the stream to watch the most inefficient way to combo. What would have been a better of course of action is just moneying up instead of drawing 4 to 6 cards per turn with Jackson and just fast advance an Efficiency Committee with double Biotic Labor. This would have allowed me to score 5 points in a turn by taking the clicks off EC and installing the remaining agendas, playing one of the Shipment From SanSan that was stranded in my hand and playing the three Siphment From Kaguya. I thought about this play but decided against it at the time because it costs 12 credits and I only had around 25, bringing me to a double siphon range.

I included a Consulting Visit in the deck in fear of people realizing Employee Strike is crazy good. I ended up not using it for the whole day, but I still think it is worth it over the 3rd Shipment From Mirrormorph since it can allow you to find a missing Power Shutdown or Shipment From mirrormorph if you can afford the extra Biotic Labor. Similarly, it can tutor Reuse in case of Vamp. I highly recommend to at least try this deck out because it is not affected by the new MWL and is very strong, even you hate it and think it is uninteractive, you should at least read up and practice on it if you plan to play comptetively in my opinion. There are now great resources to learn to play the deck and how to tech up and play against it.

How did you feel about the ice suite? I've been considering playing NEXT ice in CI because I'm underwhelmed by how gear-checky Magnet and Turing can be against Shapers and I think NEXT Silver is a good way to address that.

I'll be honest that I only ever rez ICE if it gearchecks or in the very early game. As soon as the runner has all his breakers I will literally never rez unless I can still combo out the turn after that. Turing and magnet are a good combination to gearcheck anarchs about parasite and Faust, Vanilla is just awesome because it's the cheapest gearcheck. In around half my games I end up discarding half of my ICE because it's useless past the early game, you would actually prefer them to run once you have the combo.

Grats on your win!

What are your thoughts on Magnet vs Quandary? With so much ice dying being instantly killed by parasited Magnet doesn't seem to be doing much here?

What I like about Magnet vs Quandary is that Quandary is yet another instant parasite target while Magnet gearchecks them for a Faust and Spooned. I have never had the actual magnet ability fire off, because the only way that could happen is if they Parasite a Turing and refuse to wait the turns and try to kill with sucker while you also have an unrezzed Magnet in front of it. This is very much a hedge case and Magnet is basically only because just like Lotus Field it's hard to trash and ends the run.

Similarly, it can tutor Reuse in case of Vamp.

well, you need two bucks to play consulting visit, so this won't work

I also play consulting visit in my CI but I never use it, so I will probably play more a Restructure in this slot.

@guy.brushYou are 100% right, glad that I didnt have to use it to tutor Reuse then! I initially put it just to tutor ELP, replacing the third Shipment from mirrormorph, and I ended up thinking it could also tutor Reuse after Vamp for some reason. I still think I would leave it there just to improve your chances of not losing to an early Emp strike and also to tutor a missing power shutdown for 6 creds and a biotic more than the usual combo. Most definitely a flex slot though.
