Valencia's Lead

StarlightCrusade 104

I did NOT design this...this was built by a very astute friend of mine who doesn't actually own a set. He's interested in suggestions. The deck is Bad Publicity with a side of Link. If you have any ideas, be sure to share them!

Please be aware that influence is affected differently by the 'Most Wanted List' that has cards that reduce your maximum influence regardless of faction; in this case it's the 2 Yogs. If you're playing casual only, ignore this note, otherwise it wouldn't be legal in a tournament. :)

Ok, to give some advice - First off, Blackmail. That card literally goes hand in hand with Valencia, since the corp is already Bad Pub'd from the get-go. Speaking of Bad Pub, if your intention is to lay on the Bad Pub continuously, then I would recommend Itinerant Protesters to really hurt the corp.

You are overloaded with programs. Way too much in my opinion, and many unnecessary duplicates. Valencia is comfortable with building a board state, because if the corporation intends on going for the score then you can just Blackmail the server and steal it anyway, that's where your Infiltration will do work if you think the corp is trying to pull a fast one to waste your Blackmails. Since Blackmails are the crux of her ability, include Déjà Vu and Same Old Thing to maximise the number of times you can use it.

If you want to pair-up Raymond Flint with the Bad Pub stacks then why not consider something like The Turning Wheel to spend counters and enable multi-access on the corp's HQ. Lose The Toolbox and Magnum Opus, and the GS Shrike M2 and GS Striker M1. Use the Spare influence to include Account Siphon to lock the corp down, and add Eater to ensure access, (you have Data Suckers which will paid with Mimic and Yog, Eater will help if they decide to purge mid run.

If we're going down the route of reducing the corp's hand size, you can also look at Wanton Destruction, since you need fewer clicks to remove cards from their HQ. Finally, card draw, you have none, and that is a massive problem in a 50 card deck. Wyldside + Adjusted Chronotype combo works well, or possibly an Earthrise Hotel.

Finally, get rid of Wyrm, it's a terrible card. People will be suggesting you use Faust to break things, which is a legit call as everyone's playing it.

Hope this wall of text helps! Sorry I haven't had time to proof-read it.

Also, if you want to go down a horrid route, Keyhole. Console choice would either be Vigil for card draw, or Turntable to let them score big agendas which you can swap out for later. Don't forget the Same Old Thing can be used with Account Siphon to create a Siphon Lock, a means of using Account Siphon over and over to force the corp to be so poor they can't do anything, which is when you drop the Medium or Keyhole and begin exploiting their vulnerability. Unless the corp has nasty tricks up their sleeve you could even float the tags from the Siphons, since you would probably put them in such a horrible position they couldn't afford to set themselves back any further just to trash your resources.

Oh! I forgot! I've Had Worse and Plascrete Carapace or Sports Hopper for protection.

I like the idea of trying to stack up the bad publicity in order to make it cheap to break into servers. Seems like a decent thing to try to build around.

Nobody is really playing that way, which could indicate that the strategy is inherently weak and that the game itself doesn't really support that very well. It could also be that it's actually good and nobody knows about it yet.

What I would consider doing would be playing a more conventional Valencia list for a while to see the benefits and drawbacks of playing her the way the pros do and then coming back to this and seeing if there are any things you miss from their decks that you might think about adding to this one.

@Mechanoise thank you for the feedback! This is @StarlightCrusade's friend using his account. There's a lot of good suggestions here. I didn't know about Blackmail, and will be sure to push my friend to get Fear and Loathing (or I might get it for him). I didn't account for Account Siphon as an additional means of harassing the Corp. And I could go over everything that you mentioned and give my opinion, but much of it is the same kind of reaction.

Thank you for taking the taking the time to point me in some good directions. I'm still feeling my way through the rules and strategies, and I appreciate the response.

@Raiddinn I've had some success with this deck in a casual setting, mainly because I was able to run so often for free or very cheaply based on the bad publicity bonuses. One of the biggest issues, which @Mechanoise pointed out, is the large deck size and getting the cards I need out and in play. I'll definitely look at some of the other decks on here, because I didn't even know this place existed until very recently. :P Thank you for your feedback. I honestly didn't expect much when @StarlightCrusade said he'd post it. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Thank you all for your comments. I'm looking forward to having more fun building and testing decks.
