The Angel of Chakana

I saw @magikot's deck "Chakana Theory" and couldn't help but envision it out of Valencia Estevez: The Angel of Cayambe. I was tempted to drop the Professional Contacts and Deep Thought to make room for Siphons or Temüjin Contract, but I wanted to keep the spirit of the original deck. I'm hoping that Djinn will help with the setup to compensate for a lack of SMCs and CC.

The following is all speculation. The deck has not been tested yet.

Basically I am picturing an early game dig to get a Progenitor and Djinn and hopefully at least 1 Virus Breeding Ground. At that point you can throw Hivemind on progenitor and tutor a Chakana or 2 along with Deep Thought onto Djinn.

After setup, you can sit back and just click virus counters onto Hivemind, and load up your bank account. Blackmail + Rumor Mill all but guarantees you can stop any remote play, while Chakana stops fast advance. If you ever see an agenda or if the corp lets you build up too many Medium counters, Blackmail or in a pinch Crypsis should let you in with little trouble. If you think the corp is flooded, tutor up Nerve Agent.

Finally, if you run into trouble, Rebirth will be your trump card grabbing Omar or Quetzal to get you in for your final points.

The list is now out of date, but still feel I should post this for reference.

I would probably drop some of the duplicates to make room for Making an Entrance now. Unfortunately you lose to most Breaking News plays as well as HHN. Cyberdex was also an issue.

That link doesn't work for me, I'm assuming this is the list you meant to link?

@whirrun I thought about switching for Darwin, but I don't think this deck wants to run very often, and Crypsis is more of a sure thing.

Seems like your list planned on running a lot more frequently and making use of lots of bad pub.

There was actually a slightly more recent version, but that one will do. The list definitely wasn't meant to run much though, I was just paranoid building it and put in a lot of 'plan b' cards like Gravedigger and Darwin. Most of the wins came from shutting down FA, locking the remote, clearing HQ with NA and then making one or two big medium runs.

It's still one of my favourite ever decks for being 100% runner control, I'm just not sure it holds up as well now against CTM. Also the Astro based FA it was built to counter isn't as much of a thing anymore.

Your list looks pretty good though, and makes use of some of the newer support cards. I'd still be tempted by Darwin as it's likely cheaper the Crypsis. You also only need two Chakana and one medium in my experience, it lets you fit more acceleration or a Planned Assault. Clone Chip + Parasite is too expensive now to include, but I would recommend trying NACH (maybe with Film Critic) over Plascrete. The deck hates tags, you might also want something to deal with Best Defence if it turns out to be a thing. I'm interested to see how Pro Co works.

Sorry for the essay. Good luck!

Sadly, Best Defense makes Progenitor obsolete :( Without it, you will need all three Virus Breeding Ground out to be able to keep Chakana lock going without having to run R&D.

This doesn't necessarily make it unplayable, but it certainly doesn't help things.
