PE: Trap and Field

Djaris 18

Hey guys, I wrote this up once, but I think my login timed out, and it all got dumped. I'll probably go back into specifics some day, but the core of the theme is: I like shell game. I'm inspired by Blacktree and Cambridge decks, and I'm relatively new to the game so I figured I'd throw my go at this iconic deck up.

Agendas seem pretty standard for this type of deck- I don't have any of the newer agendas, as my bench is a little shallow at the moment. Fetal AI for the net damage, House of Knives and Philotic Entanglement to try and score for more aggression, and The Future Perfect to pad AP, and try and protect the AP you give up.

Traps include Snare! (Classic), Psychic Field (Psi Game is fun), Shi.Kyū (to slow 'em down), and Project Junebug which I'll use with Mushin No Shin. (The prevalence of Junebug will also let Mushin potentially fast advance Knives or Philo).

Neural EMP and Scorched Earth are potential killing blows, though my only tag card is Cerebral Cast, so Scorch is potentially a long shot.

Econ was tough in the early version of this deck. Adonis and PAD have to stick around to be useful, and with unprotected servers, that's tough. So I go with Beanstalk Royalties, and Hedge Fund with the future inclusion of Pop-up Window in front of R&D for more consistent scratch.

Ice is limited- It's only really going to go in front of central servers, but are mostly meant to be diversified, and focused around End Run and Net Damage- For instance, Chum in front of Komainu. Inazuma in front of Pop-up Window.

Obviously, the goal is to make running on remotes dangerous, if not impossible. Keeping Future Perfect in deck is best. Hope to keep their cards and resources down until they slip up, or you can take them out with direct damage (Philo and Neural, or Tag, and Scorch). Anyway. It's a start.

Looks like this deck would work better in Nisei Division: The Next Generation.

The deck looks fun! And scary! I have a few thoughts:

  1. Your meta might be different than mine, but generally I don't run into enough expose effects to make Zaibatsu Loyalty worth the include. Is it disappointing if someone figures out your cool tricks with a timely expose effect? Sure. But is it likely to happen... not really.
  2. I'm not sure what you are hoping Inazuma + Pop-up Window to do. They don't combine in an especially harsh way for the runner. Pop-up window's routine doesn't explicitly end the run, it just says "either the runner pays a credit or the run ends". Even under the effects of Inazuma, the runner can still pay a credit to keep going.
  3. Cerebral Cast as a way to tag the runner can be a little inconsistent. If they know you have Scorch, it's just going to do a brain damage every time. That said, doing a brain damage is not bad, especially with all the scary net damage your deck can do. I like it!

Looking at the cards you used, I'm guessing you might not have access to all the cards in the game? What are you working with?

@flottI could do- but I feel like I'd want to push the psi game even further... Thinking about trading a friend for some Fumiko Yamamori and give that a go, but for now, we're sticking black tree. In fact, I'm trading the same friend for some Prisecs which should also potentially help with the tags.

@SanjayYeah, the tag or the braindamage is a devils deal. If they tag, and I have a click left, I may be going for a scorch, but a brain damage can't be bought off, and limiting hand size means a smaller buffer for chaining net damage. As mentioned earlier, I'm trading into a couple prisec, and I think I'll probably swap out a snare for one, and maybe Zaibatsu for the other.

Re; Pop-up Window x Inazuma- Yeah, there was a period of time where the Inazuma were actually Sensei. Inazuma into Komainu or Neural Katana would probably be better. Though with Martial Law on the horizon and Mausolus inching closer, I may have to try and find some influence for that. Extra creds and clicks go to beefing that up.

Also, you got me. I'm pretty limited in card pool at the moment. In our playgroup, we have all of the deluxes, but I'm trying to just pull from my collection, which at this point is a core, a stripped core (so I have all the 2 and 3 card includes in full playsets, but still only one of the "rare" cards), and Honor and Profit. (Though in an unrealted note, I'm trading the profit half to a friend for the Chaos half of Order and Chaos.) I have one datapack, Trace Amounts, that I mostly got for e3s and the Fetals.

@Djaris You could probably swap a Scorched Earth for a Consulting Visit this would then free up 4 inf to play around with.

@PinkwarriorAnd it would serve the same purpose, plus a click. I can dig for whatever I needed at the time which might be a Scorched earth, who knows. :P And with that much Weyland (3 beanstock, 2 ice wall, 1 scorched earth makes six), it would open up all four, eh? Which means... Okay... maths.

15 influence spent. -4 from one Scorch. -2 from Pop-up. 9 influence spent. +6 Add two Mausolus, +0 Add some Consulting Visits?
