Reaver Roundabout

Skeletons 147

This was my first real Geist deck and it sprung from a Reaver experiment that was so enjoyable I ended up mucking about with it for three months plus.

The core of it is the regular Tech Trader engine with B&E and Spy Camera as fuel. Reaver brings so much draw that you inevitably find whatever you need, especially when you’re firing it during the corp’s turns as well.

Plus, my influence choices have never been simpler!

Is it competitive? Probably not, but it’s really fun to draw so many cards. And breaking ice to make money will never not feel weird and cool. When he works, Geist is just effortless - it definitely feels like he’s cheating...

The deck went through some iterations but this is the one I was happiest with.

However it still can’t escape some bad matchups (most notably CI) and I want to move on to other ideas, so I’m just posting it here for posterity.

When Reaver came out, I tried it in Geist. It's really bananas how much draw you get. The problem was that I was ... drawing too much.

I think that my deck got substantially better when I took out the reavers for a Faust, a couple of Off-Campus Apartment's, and some more connections (notably Street Peddler and Raymond Flint)-- generating draw from installs on OCA and having more trashables balanced out what's lost from reaver, and Faust gives you something to actually do with all those cards. The draws from installing on OCA also feel really efficient in terms of building up your board state (whereas until you have traders online, reaver draws tended to choke my grip).

I could also see an approach where you use Severnius Stim Implant + reaver to draw a sickening amount of cards and then just go HAM on R&D. Then again, Spy Camera is so, so good with FTE and Mad Dash that it's hard to justify traditional multi-access over sniping bonus points.

Are there other cards that would be good with "draw a billion things then do some stuff"? Freelance Coding Contract if you're going for the "least-conventional econ engine" award, maybe? Ekomind plus Overmind?

@internet_potato Thanks for your comments! I've not played about with OCA (too nervous about Best Defense killing it!) but I'll have to give it a try. I do like Peddler, doubly so in Geist.

In another version of this deck with -1 Levy and +3 Sacrificial Constructs, I used Tapwrm to be a massive nuisance for corps. It created some significant profit too, especially so as this deck does very little to siphon corporate money.

A Geist deck with Severnius Stim Implant is a great idea, definitely something I'll have to try!
