Turtle Soup - 4-1 at Louisville Regionals

Discipel 71

Took this deck to the Louisville Regionals and went 4-1 on the day. Missing the top cut by strength of schedule due to my corp just not performing well at all.

It's a different Liza deck in that it doesn't run Counter Surveillance. It runs 33 events and thats your econ. You have 3 Rogue Trading for when you're in desperate need. On Jnet everyone was trashing Rogue Trading the turn after I installed it. However, on the day, Rogue Trading was never trashed.

Really this deck just feels like good old run 3 times in a turn old school crim, and it's amazing. The only thing is that you die IMMEDIATELY to High Profile Target and Boom.

I went tag-me turn 1 every game and ended the games with 9-17 tags. It really was a fun time.

Round 1: Michael K. - Great guy. He and I have played against each other in regionals before and I'm fairly certain that he has beaten me every time. This time was no diferent and I got swept. He killed my Eater and Turtle with Batty and won relatively quickly.

Round 2: played against my buddy Keegan's PU deck, who was 1 of the 4 other players I traveled 4 hours with to come to the regional. Won with credit denial and running everything installed. We split runner.

Round 3: I don't remember my opponent's name unfortunately. He was on CT and Asa. Won the game fairly easily. He couldn't really keep me out once I had turtle down. I kept him relatively low on credits and won quickly by attrition. I swept this round.

Round 4: Ben H. - First time playing Ben and he actually said it was his first big tourney. He was on Asa and I honestly don't remember his runner. We runner split though. This was another instance of I kept him relatively poor and won even with an Enhanced Login Protocol on the board for quite a few turns. My major misplay here what I had Doppelganger in hand for like 2 or 3 turns before finally installing and somewhat negating the ELP. Still we runner split this one after I waz able to finally get rid of the ELP and start running with abandon.

Round 5: I played against another of my good friends Greg. He was on Palana and Maxx. For the second round in the tourney I had to play against someone from my local meta. Awesome. His Palana deck is a Porcupine Palana buold that he had taken to a top 8 regionals in 2017 and I had played against A TON. Thos was prpbably my fastest runner game on the day though. He saw no money on the muligan and his two most expensive ice. So I had free reign on Archives. Click 1 install Turtle. Click 2 Dirty Laundry. Click 3 install Doppelganger. Click 4 run Archives twice. That was basically the beginning of the end for him unfortunately. I could get through the Anansi with 3 credits and kept him poor with 3 turns worth of Diversion of Funds. Now, I want as a disclaimer, that when Diversion came out I was one of the people who was completely against it being "good" and called it "okay". Turns out, I was extremely wrong and it is in fact VERY good. Kept his Palana deck below 4 credits and won with 2 stolen Obokatas and (I believe) house of knives.

I included Information Sifting to deal with the possible CI that I was expecting to see. Which never happened. The only person on CI was Josh W, who when my group left after swiss was undefeated. However, Sifting did get me like 7 points on the day over 2 games. So I don't regret including it at all. Overall, I think the only time I was even disappointed to see a card was when I had 3 hot pursuit in my hand of 6 cards and had no breakers. That happened game 1. It was beautiful and sad all at the same time.

It was one of the most tense and fun tournements that I have attended and I want to thank the Judges and Venue for a great time! It really is always fun to see people that I only see at Regionals and ChiLo Grudge Matches. I hope that we continue that into the future!

Ben's Runner was a Nexus Reina, which I remember because I somehow still tagged him, couldn't find an HPT to save my life, then I got to six points while his econ recovered and then couldn't close the deal.

I believe the name of your round three opponent is Micah. He is a great guy. I chatted with him for quite a bit while we both waited for our party members that made top eight.
