Nero GvC 2018, I need a better deck name (7th Place)

Last Saturday was Gaming Vs Cancer, a yearly collection of tournaments held for charity in Southampton. The Netrunner Tournament is random IDs handed out when tickets are bought. The idea being that you’ll either get a tier A and C or two Tier B (with the caveat that trying to tier IDs for such a tournament is a challenge). This year my IDs where The Outfit: Family Owned and Operated and Nero. I love Weyland and I hadn’t played The Outfit yet so happy days. As for Nero, I enjoy a bit of Criminal and I hadn't played much with them since DoF, Bankroll etc had come out so worth a go.

So Nero, not a bad ID for a tournament like this but I think I used his ability only 2, maybe 3 times over the day. Simply put I didn't seem to see many Sentrys, I’m not sure if that was because people didn't want to rez them or because their not that common. Now if it was Code Gates Nero could avoid that would be amazing.

This deck went through a number of iteration early on, to start with it was Nexus deck based on The Kite Runner (1st @ It's Gametime). Although I normally like this style of deck I just wasn't enjoying it during testing. I then tried a more Apocalypse style deck, again I love Apocalypse (Apoc Ken being one of my favorite decks) but i just couldn't get into it.

So finally I settled on a kind of middle ground, try to run early but also set up for mid game. It kind of works and I think the deck is better then it preformed on the day, I think the issue was more my skill then the deck.

I think a lot of the cards choices are self explanatory as good Crim cards. I’m loving Crowdfunding and I had forgotten how good Security Testing is, especially with Paragon and Bankroll.

I love Amina but added a Abagnale for those match ups I needed a cheep code gate breaker early. I tried running without a sentry breaker for a while and just have Aumakua. Two issues came up, Swordsman and Anansi. Big problems when my main testing partners have Jinteki for the same tournament are both playing some combination of those cards. But saying all that I probably could of done without the Femme Fatale.

I love inside job because it always amazes me how people forget about it.

Aumakua was a last minute (re)add to give some early pressure if need (yes it was the 46th card). I found it so helpful in 2 or 3 games but the issue I met was I could never find my bankrolls in the early game.

As always it was a brilliant tournament, so many fun decks and a great group of people

Thanks to everyone for the brilliant games and atmosphere, Thanks to all the GvC team who organize such a fun and meaningful event. Thank you to Steve for all the hard work he puts into organizing the Netrunner tournament, sorting prizes and keeping the game going.

Cheers for reading.

P.S. If you hadn't guess it was my Outfit game that carried the day for me, Nero only won 2 out of 6 games.
