I've been trying to build effective mill decks for a while and this one actually has a lot of promise and recently pulled off 3 mills in one tourney. The idea is to function only off of recurring credits while Aesop's and Scheherazade build up your actual credit pool just in case you need a last stitch effort to make a run. Ideally, this deck never actually runs. With a chance to bring in 34 viruses, the mill is pretty simple as corps are usually drawing to find protection on R&D and Archives.

It's a deck of bluffs also, bringing in Grimoire for the purpose of scaring the corp into burning a precious turn wiping counters, especially if you hold your Imps on the field.

Backbone of the deck is really Sahasrara and Aesop's. Clickless economy is huge as you're losing one already to Wyldside, but Wyldside is a big part of the deck. Drawing two potentially viruses for a single click just gives you a wonderfully steady stream of virus installs that Sahasrara/Cyberfeeder pays for and Scheherazade and Aesop's build up the bank for.

Happy to do it! It is a lot of fun and the corp panics quite a bit. You might have to adjust a little bit if you find yourself against an HB/Archive Retrieval. That whole "not running thing" kind of goes away but you can usually imp/hemmorhage away things that bother you to the point where the corp can't use them anymore.

I've been playing my recently built Noise deck (much to my girlfriend's dismay) that has DLR and Joshua B. and Keyhole for milling and it's working out pretty well. I tried to focus less on the adding to the ability of an ID and making a playable deck on top of that, but man, milling the crap out of someone sounds fun.

I thought about it Ryan, but the deck really didn't need it the more I tested it. If that stops being the case, I'll swap the 3 Gormans for the Levy and replace with Lamprey when it comes out so I can keep the 1 cost viruses.

Played a dedicated mill deck a while back that was too slow, using Djinn on Omni-Drive. This looks much more viable. Do you actually try to run to load the Deep Thought as a rule or just in the case of suspected fast advance decks?

Yeah, I wanted to build a deck where you weren't wasting clicks searching for viruses, thus the Wyldside. Because, you're right, it is too slow. Deep Thought is in there for the sole reason that it is a 1 cost virus and really nothing more. Once Lamprey comes out, (and Cache for that matter), he'll get replaced.

Realy liked it. But i used to play +3 parasites and +1 aesop's. -1 deep thought -1 medium -1 nerve agent -1 hemorrhage I still got a lot of viruses in the deck(just-1 at all) but got better chance to take aesop's, thats really important for this deck and got cheaper viruses(parasites) that could give more preasure for the corp and more time for you to exterminate their deck.

I don't have a 3rd Aesop's sadly or it would replace Deep Thought. I opted for no Parasites for the simple reason that I never ran so Parasites became a dead card instantly because there was no rezzed ice. I definitely want to put in cheaper viruses which is why I am excited for Upstalk. If they could all be 1 cost, that would be AMAZING! :)

Deck looks like fun, always wanted a mill deck to work. My only concern is the desire to not run. What happens when the opponent realises you're never going to run and thus either limits their drawing or simply powers their agendas through an iced remote server? I would have figured they would simply just ice up a remote and their archives and then you're screwed, but has that not being the case?

Sure Broken, I've had to deal with things like this three ways:

  1. By the time they've figured it out, it's too late. Naturally that's the best solution...but you can't bank on that so plan for the next two.

  2. They figure it out early enough that they can score. One of the ways I deal with this is by keeping out Crypsis or (better yet) slowly build up a Darwin with the hopes that they'll burn a precious turn wiping counters. This doesn't leave you with a lot of memory unless you got out the Grimoire, but I've run very successfully with 4 memory using Crypsis/Darwin out always, two Sahasrara's and the 4th is just any virus I'm installing over itself. Depending on the speed of the start, you might have to abandon the "no-run" plan which means reconsider what you stick on Schehrerezade (it doesn't run because I don't want to get Power Shutdown'd for 0).

  3. You deal with fast advance or targeted archive retrieval. Well, so much for not running. Same plan as 2, get the Darwin/Crypsis out and keep it out, but play it a bit earlier than you might normally have. Holding on to the Nerve Agent for a few runs will also be nice. Remember, these viruses might be dedicated to the mill...but that doesn't mean their effects don't work! Imps, Hemorrhage, Nerve Agent, Medium, just use their effects instead. Might not be able to mill anymore, but you still get to be a pain in the ass. Usually, they'll burn some extra clicks protecting themselves which gives you extra time to mill and get a good solid run in archives.

No matter what, corp is going to score something. That's perfectly fine. They need to score 3 or 4 somethings and yeah, you could use a little luck

Cool, useful information thanks! :-) Shame the parasites require rezzed ice as it would be handy to have those for emergencies. And face planting ice isn't not generally recommended!

Agreed! I had them in the original version and realized that was pointless. Didn't have Grimoire in there either but realized I needed the threat of running always available because, like your concern, people caught on quickly. I hope it's as much fun for you to play as it is for me :)

Forgive the ignorance, but how is it that you can avoid running? Can you in fact use ANY hosted virus counters to activate hemorrhage rather than only the counters on it? Or are you just using the Déjà vu and Aesop's to recur it?

Sure! The hosted virus counters don't really get used unless my runless strategy stops working, which can happen. The success of the runless mill depends on a few things:

  1. That the corp is drawing outside of his normal draw phase
  2. In the 50-60% of the deck you do usually mill before you have to make a decision about running or not, you get rid of everything that matters (so yes, a little luck)

Something that helps is that the number of viruses and number of counters (and the threat of running with counters on Crypsis and/or Darwin) urges the corp to burn a turn or few wiping virus counters which is another part of the deck. It's one thing to constantly play viruses just for the sake of pulling off the mill, but sometimes you get the choice of what to play and what to leave out and you can scare the crap out of the corp with it. If they see a Crypsis and an Imp or 2, they may wipe counters. If you're sitting on a Medium and they have an undefended R&D, they may spend a turn or few trying to fix that inevitable problem. It's tricky, but effective.

The Deju Vu and Same Old Things do help me get Viruses back (and sometimes I'll pick something specific for those scare tactics and sometimes I'll simply get some 1 cost viruses back in my hand).
