Drydock Ob (5-2, 2nd place at MegaCity Brno)

viljums 77

I suppose there's one always-plays-Ob person in every meta and in Latvia it's me. My favourite flavour was a midrange scoring one, since nothing beats the feeling of getting those last points. But after elevation dropped, it lost a lot of pieces and that meant that it was time for the old ship to visit a drydock to repair damages. This caused me to abandon the vessel, partly because I was burnt out of sailing and extracting, also I wanted to explore new identities and grow out as a deckbuilder.

It was when serial GLC yapper, Mr. Meathir sang sea shanties that it could be still good and worked to unstuck the superJumbo barge.

unstucking the boat

This was all I needed to return to helm and several iterations later I landed on my list.

Notable includes:

Envelopment - insanely hard to deal ICE in this meta and despite the fact that I did not kill any Anarch running Bankhar, it has singlehandly won me some games, letting rush out crucial points.

Lamplighter - mainly used to protect archives from value runs, I love bullying criminals, when they Bravado into it, and are forced then to clean a tag.

Notable excludes:

Slash and burn - I cut it from list, because this deck goes for a U shaped defence (R&D and remote) leaving HQ almost open, that's why I don't want to brick my hand with this hard to score agenda.

Mitra - humanoid always fetches Spin Doctor, since I play a lot of assets, I value card draw more than credits

Tournament report.

Since I struggled to find a runner that is fun to play I took a bit undercooked poison vial Ari list which I had 4 practice games with, so it was up to my trusted boat to carry this heavy load, unfortunately I arrived at the tournament very sleep deprived and lost first 2 rounds, to my surprise, I didn't drop any game for the rest of the day.

R1 vs Girls Magda - loss, overcommited on remote leaving weakly defended centrals, opponent set up R&D dig combo with devadata drones, beatrice and pretty mary and won in ~10 accesses.

R3 vs Reg Sable, win on time, played awfully, but somehow got to 5 points, while opponent couldn't find Twinning and dodged all the agendas with single accesses untill time was called.

R5 vs Reg Sable, win on time, runner went for a value run archives, only to find Stavka Hafrun waiting for him there, with his rig in shambles, I could score out 5 points, vs his 1.

R7 vs Reg Hosh, win, this was the last chance to get to top 4, in dramatic fashion, my opponent was fellow latvian player - Sumpurnis, also desperate to get into top 4. Game started pretty badly as I got heaviest agenda flood of the whole day, but there was one thing going for me. The price revealed 2 Bankhars and I had a remote set up just good enough to push through Above The Law and kill the last copy of this fair and balanced card. The loss of it and him being unable to find his decoder, was enough to windmill agendas for 7 points.

After the swiss I were 5-2, but heartbreakingly, due to the weak SoS, I earned 5th place. But as faith have it, one guy from top 4 decided to drop, to participate in the startup event next day and I gladly took opportunity to fill his spot.

Day 2

Despite feeling better I started day with a runner loss and it was once again job for Superheavy Logistics to carry this tournament run.

Game 2 vs Reg Sable - total disaster for a criminal player, he installed curupira, accessed SDS from R&D, after brief pause decides to steal and instal another Curupira, then next turn runs R&D only to see another SDS, which he decides to not steal. Which meant that I instantly jammed it in remote and scored, thrashing his last fracter anyway and locking him out of the game.

Game 3 vs Girls Magda - this game went much differently than last time, runner didn't setup his R&D dig tools, couldn't get his econ online, I rushed out 5 points and single Envelopment was enough to defend last 2 points.

Then onto finals, I faced the final boss - Karlov and finally my runner did something and found a win against undefeated Nuvem list. So it was only one game left, which I played on my comfort pick.

Final game vs Hoshiko - both sides went with really fast setup. But despite getting 2 clean Stavka fires, which could win most games, my remote were taken apart and I couldn't break the lock.

Conclusion.

I love this archetype to death, to win you really need to play your heart out and every victory feels extra earned, getting to 7 points as a corp in this meta feels like defeating a Dark Souls boss.

Vindication. VINDICATION. I'm so happy someone better than me took the bones and got it somewhere. I like cutting down the Azefs since people have been not trashing Excavators increasingly recently; it's harder to guarantee a PTB trigger but I gotta try this.

I doubt that I’m better player, but thanks for developing list. Azef got cut, because too often I were forced to thrash cards I didn’t wanted to be thrashed and I hoped that Off the books overadvancements could be relevant sometimes, but in practice, it just served me as blank 3/2.
