Strawberry Zooper Dooper [6th, Aus. Capital Megacity]

abstracted 64

This deck did OK for me in this event, but not as well as I'd have hoped, finishing at 2-1 in Swiss and 0-2 in the cut.

The Good

  • I don't think runners are particularly well prepared for glacier decks at the moment. Deep Dive decks rely on making central runs, and SkunkVoid on centrals pretty much demands a Pinhole before you can interact.
  • In that vein, your matchup against Sable is excellent, and I think your matchup into Magdalene is acceptable.
  • Scoring a Sisyphus gets you like 85% of the way to winning the game against most decks -- and doing so isn't too challenging. A single-advanced card on top of an upgrade could be it, and you have Charlotte to bluff that and potentially draw the runner through multiple taxing ice.

The Bad

  • Your matchup into Crew decks is really rough unless you draw very well. This build should probably have one or two more ice, and I found in one of my cut games that all of my ice was eaten from R&D leaving me no way to get back into the game.
  • This deck seems to require pretty encyclopaedic knowledge of runner gameplans and how to play against them, which I did not have going into the event.
  • The deck needs to draw a good mix of ice, money and agendas, all at the right times, to have the best outcomes, and you don't have tools to draw or shape your hand to increase the chances of this happening.

The Ugly

I have it on good authority that this deck is not fun to play into, for a few reasons:

  • Games can be functionally over as soon as Sisyphus hits the score area, but take 6+ turns to actually finish.
  • Decks not on Pinhole -- or that don't draw their Pinholes -- can just lose to SkunkVoid.
  • Games can end abruptly due to hitting net damage ice repeatedly with Sisyphus.
  • You're often not playing proactively and pushing agendas until turn 9+.
  • Deep Dive decks in particular can be shut out of interaction.

Overall, for competitive play I feel like this strategy and deck is... fine? Probably in the realm of Tier 2 at the moment, but I'm sure a better deckbuilder than me could take that further.
