Buy My Crap

PureFlight 1068

After writing a review of CPC Generator, I figured I'd put together a Spark deck. Played a few games with it at a game night:

vs Smoke (Win): He was totally broke the whole time to play around my ID. He used Net Mercur to store an artificial money pool as well. With a Cloak, he could break Little Engine for 1 real credit and gain 5 (dats some gamble money), which became his burst econ to install stuff. Then I cast Beta Cat and trashed his Mercur and Beth. A handful of Free Lunch counters kept him out of my remote while I scored out the winning agenda.

vs Exile (Loss): I didn't start with any Advertisments, so his first turn he set up with Rara and Zade. Turn 3 got him Aesop's and Reaver. He spent most of the game over 20 creds. I rushed out like 4 points and then lost in a huge garbage fire. Stupid Exile. It was fun that he needed an Atman 5 + 2 LLDS to break Little Engine for a turn. But eventually he found Black Orchestra.

Thoughts

  • Spark is hard because runner engines can invalidate the ID in the late game, but this isn't a rush ID. So against engine economies you have to ding them with ads to delay their set-up.
  • Also, Temujin kinda makes Spark worthless (unless they burn through their cash like my mom watching HSN),
  • Friends + self-trashing assets like Astrobar is definitely the right idea. But for whatever reason I was having a hell of a time getting those assets in play.
  • Maybe I need more Reversed Accounts. Or Financial Collapses. Or something.
  • I liked CPC Generator and Free Lunch (dats some eli numbers).
  • Service Outage was decent. Predictive Algorithm might be good too.
  • Defensive upgrades might be really helpful here, like Red Herrings or an Ash 2X3ZB9CY, using Friends to bring them back.

Ya know, you could probably make a decent Spark 1.1.1.1 deck with D&D+Station One. Your 1 card would be Friends, or Jackson, or maybe some trace punishment like Midseasons/Beta Cat.

Silly question- how do you score? All you've got is Tollbooth / Little Engine to ETR and you can't score from hand

@Feed Not a silly question! The original list didn't even have Datapike, and really needed some ETRs. The short answer is: score out behind a Tollbooth or Little Engine. Or both. Either of them requires ~7 from Gordian Blade. Throw an IP Block or Free Lunch in front of it and it's a pretty taxing server.

So yeah, if they have any actual amount of money (10+) you basically can't score. But that's why there's Reversed Accounts!

Absolutely lovely deck! Two games played two games won, huge thumbs up! Very different from my usual flatline/score Weyland or FA HB.

Sight of runner eating free lunch over and over again (R&D protected by Pop-up and Free lunch - what can go wrong?) just to see him drained for 32 creds next round (Reversed accounts x 5 + 12 lunch tokens) yummy!

Did some tweaking here and there. I have replaced Datapike with Cobra (to have some sentry ICE), added Mumbad Virtual Tour by replacing one CPC Generator. Tour works nicely with Product placement for nice +2 corp -6 runner cred flow and as a head start for Hellion Beta Test next round!

Moments when your sole R&D defender is in fact Special Offer makes your hard go boom, when Runner puts Temüjin Contract and targets... Archives!

@Urziel Yay! So glad you enjoyed it! I've liked playing Spark since it came out.

Cobra should be a fine choice. Did you miss having ETRs?

MVT definitely fits in with the Spark game plan. I suppose dropping CPCG is one less ID trigger, but drains the runner 5 instead of 1. Seems good!

Definitely have protected centrals with only Special Offers before...but often it can stave them off until you have a more permanent ice! :-D

@PureFlight Number of ETR is really low so answer is: both yes and no; one or two pop-up windows in front of R&D drains runner credits really nice. Macrophage was a boon against Medium and Datasucker, that ETR is nice but expensive, but wait runner is running on fumes! so why not even trace 1 can be ETR if he has 2-3 creds. You need to play in a different way.

Changing one Little Engine to Tollbooth is also a viable option. With some more influence Chum + Little Engine can be really nice combo.

CPC Generator may not be that efficient if Runner is using Aesop's Pawnshop or Magnum Opus.

Played against Maxx. Lost turn one when Magnum hit the table.

I've been having a bit of success with Ark Lockdown instead of the Hellion, as most runners don't expect Ark out of Spark. Thoughts?

@Fabtraption I can definitely see using Ark as a surprise factor. The advantage of Beta Cat (or any other trace) is that you can leverage your economic lead. Is it too much to ask for both?

Drop 2x Adonis and a Special Offer for 2x Marilyn and an Ark Lockdown. :-)
