This is basically the Apoc Maxx that Bridgeman, Sokka, The King and I have been on for quite some time – except for some “Last Minute Changes”.
I have been on Apoc for as long as I can remember, and I probably wont stop until it rotates or gets banned. We tried a bit around with the slots like adding a Mad Dash, Aesops or a Hippo, but nothing really impressed me, so I was ready to just lock in Bridgeman’s Worldender list. This was until Whiteblade’s surprise deck leaks, which caused an unexpected raise in CTM lists. In order to combat those, I took out an MK and an Apoc for another Deuces and another OOTA.
The deck has the draw to ideally find one of the Apocs early or go through the deck fast enough to shuffle them back in before the corp can safely score out. The Mk was cut because its hard to being locked on sentries. So, after checking the NRDB drawing simulator one and a half times, I concluded those changes to be correct and logged in this untested deck an hour before the deadline.
Contrary to common believe this has a decent PD match-up (unless they go super hard on the hate) which was the most important thing for me. On the other hand, you can basically concede any Jinteki Match-up which I was lucky enough to dodge. Asset spam match-ups are skill testing but definitely winnable, albeit depending on the kind of tag punishment. Similarly, it’s a coin flip against yellow glacier. Lastly, there is Fast Advance which took a hit big enough with Vacheron gone that we were confident in going down to 2 Stargates. Gagarin FA was something we did not expect but caused problems and is one of the weaker match-ups.
In Swiss my lack of a third MK almost cost me a game as ChaosIsMe smartly called my bluff and Ark Lockdowned my 2 MKs. Luckily, I got to score out before being locked completely. Over the two days it also beat the PDs of Wentagon, Radiant and ValeNetrunner. Thanks to the stream curse of ManInTheMoon I also took an uncontested game of a flooded Jemison and topping it off with an insanely lucky double OOTA run in which I stole a Bellona and an ARES while on 5 credits before paying my magical girl tax. Beating Rusefus’ CTM in a game I probably shouldn’t have won.
In the cut it very narrowly beat Skry’s Gagarin Fast Advance with a lucky last click HQ snipe before getting blown up and got to avenge Bridgeman by decking out mjp on CTM.
Going forward I think the meta is a bit too tag heavy at the moment for DJ Fenris in an apoc list. If I had to play another tournament today, I would maybe exchange it for a career fair or a spicy networking.
Lastly, I need to thank Nisei and PSK in particular for running such a great worlds and all of Unband for the hilarious nights of prep, sound advice and basically supplying me with decks :p
Much Love
10/10 would question your slots again, only to have you end up on top of swiss and taking 4th place :D
Needless to say well played and well deserved ;)
