Asahi Shinbun: Tokyo Regionals second place

Nushura 86

As the title says this deck won me the second place at the Tokyo Regionals (15~ish players). My runner deck was the usual Andromeda Events+Desperado+Security Testing, but I think that this deck brought something new that definitely gave me some advantage (I only lost once as a Corp, three times as runner).

At its core, it is a fast advance deck (SanSans + Astroscripts are enough), but it definitely has several tricks to win the game.

In opposition to Jinteki, whenever I would install and ICE a server, the runner would almost always run to check what it was. If it is a SanSan/Jackson they are normally happy to lose 5/3 credits and trash it. Sometimes they would be surprised to find a Snare. My turn begins and I again install something. They would cry, burn more resources...and run again! This worked even against opponents who knew the deck (I faced the same opponents more than once)...they simply could not afford to let an unrezzed card sit.

I ended up flatlining with both Snares and Shinobis, by the Beale+Psychographics combo, and I also won once by making runner eat an Ichi.

In all, the deck worked way better than what I expected. I will further explore this by changing ICE (from binary ETR to taxing), adding more traps and reducing agenda density. I love how this "yellow-jinteki" deck worked.

By the way, you can find the session report in BGG (http://boardgamegeek.com/article/15923622#15923622). I recommend you read at least the details on the final. It was an epic game!

Great work in Tokyo! Hope to see you again in BCN soon! :)

@Nushura this deck is very cool. I'll try this week. you missed the super cool clashes @Flatline played in the Barcelona last tournament.

@Flatline Look forward to!! Otherwise, you can always come for a visit!

@Trusman If I had to make the deck again I would definitely change the ICE and add more traps. I look forward to your ideas.

Fast advance and murdering? Unpleasant! Nice looking deck; I've just started dabbling with Shinobi in NBN, glad to see it worked for you. Did you ever have an issue with the BP, particularly in regards to NAPD? That's been my sticking point so far

@Jashay It never was a problem, but don't rezz it carelessly. As soon as I get Shinobi I would install it, but I would normally wait before rezzing (say, after the indexing when they run to get the agendas). Of course, I will rezz if I flatline the runner, but it happens rarely. I find it a great taxing ICE for mid-endgame.

Scoring an NAPD from hand is very hard (I must have an astro counter and a Sansan on board). It actually never happened to me during the tournament..so changing it to impossible doesn't make much of a difference. Remember I keep runner broke, so I will install and advance it twice, giving the runner only 1 turn to prepare. Many runners were scared of possible junebugs or ghost branches, so they would spend clicks to draw, run, and then reach the NAPD with no money to steal ;)

By the way, someone at BGG carefully read my report and noticed that the deck had been slightly changed. The final deck had +1 Jackson, +1 Caduceus, +1 TMI, -1 Wraparound, -1 Guard, -1 Ichi..but the spirit is the same.

This deck makes me question the quality of Netrunner players in Tokyo lol ... In my meta, no person would run a NBN non-rezzed card, unless a Noise is hunting for Jackson. Also there is expose ... every competitive deck at our tournaments run at least one infiltration, not counting those with SoT for multiple use.

Also I don't see any Closed accounts and that seems really awkward to me, considering your only tag punishment as NBN is psycho. :\

@Dydra I will be VERY happy If you do not run my installed cards. What if the card is an Astroscript or a SanSan? Now I can start my fast advance train. You have 3-4 turns left to win the game!

I faced many infiltrations during the tournament (even a Silhouette deck IIRC). Again, the thing is that I do not do this trick once, but like 5-6 times in a row. As soon as I get a turn with a SanSan I can score my Astro and I win...Imagine my opponent exposes and sees a SanSan. What then? he/she still has to run there! Indeed, if it is a Jackson or a Snare he/she saved a run, but spent a click in the expose...and believe me, that click could be fatal. Against Silhouette you simply need to put enough ICE in HQ so that she cannot enter so cheap that she can run HQ, run to my server, and trash a SanSan without losing many resources (cards, imp tokens, whatever). It is an attrition battle in which I lose nothing but a card (and the click to install it).

As for tags, I did not add more because I counted on the fear of retribution rather than the fact of having them...but I totally agree. Several times I wished I had a couple of SE on my hands. I will try to fit them, but the influence is a bit high.

@Dydra just a question: where are you from? (i.e. "what is your meta?"). Honestly I have seen so many matches online (mostly from USA players) in which players NEVER run anything... I started making jokes about that :D

Believe me, if you play cautiously ("american style") in the european/spanish/italian meta you'd be eaten alive :D

Your example is exactly that. "no person would run a NBN non-rezzed card". I am so happy when I see someone playing like that... it means I can close my match in 10-15 minutes with a 7-0 :D

3 Jun 2014 Dydra

I play in Europe and honestly, I think you don't understand, that I'm under no pressure to run an unrezzed card when you are at 0 points. Of course temp changes with game situation. But that doesn't mean that I won't stomp you from HQ runs, R&D lock, mill , money control , MILL , trash ...

If I'm in your meta and I know you aren't running closed accounts, I'll gladly get you under 4c, after that run the shit out of your remotes ....

Again, who the F said that I won't run the sh*t out of you :D I will simply wait for you pay 6c to rezz your san san, before I go trash it for 5.

You also have only 6 econ cards, no econ agenda (profiteering / gila ), no asset base econ ... I doubt you will ever get above 15c against a competitive deck, which means weak Midseason

This deck will get eaten alive in our meta =) was expecting more of Japanese players honestly ( I've lived in Japan for 5 years btw, I know quite a lot lol )

3 Jun 2014 Dydra

and I feel like you will get 15c if you chain econ cards lol

3 Jun 2014 Nushura

Well, believe what you want, but if I pay 6 (SanSan) + 2 (advance), Score an Astroscript and you afterwards run, pay 5 to trash my SanSan I call it a win. (I lost 3 more credits than you, but got 2 agenda points and an astro counter). From there on I will never need to ever go above 2 credits to have a scoring window.

You will indeed see some cards in R&D and HQ (no deck can claim to lock you out of there), but forget about R&D lock and/or milling (3xJacksons and 2xFast Tracks will prevent those). An unexpected Snare will damage the runner regardless of where they find it. Probably they will not flatline him/her, but he/she will have to spend precious clicks in redrawing their hand and removing tags while I use that window to score.

The point of psychographics is NOT to give you 300 tags and psychographic win with a Beale. It is there for punishing tags. You want to Account syphon me and float tags? Great! I will Psycographic an Astroscript. You paid 4 for an NAPD? Well, I will give you 8 tags spending 5 credits.

In any case, I think you miss the point of the deck. I suggest you come again to Japan and see for yourself how strong the meta is in here ;)

I played a similar deck (albeit I autoinclude the shipment from sansan which are an absurdly strong card), and won with it a Store Championship (and then stopped playing it because is basically anti-fun).

In a NBN you DON'T need a lot of economy, i rolled with 3x Hedge, 3x Sweeps and 3x Shipment from SanSan, and it was MORE than enough. Cheap EtR forces the runner to look for the right breakers, and while he tries to multiaccess your R&D (which will take him turns and turns) you can easily get to 4 agenda points. A scored astroscript means basically a win. 1-2 toolbooth (I prefer them to shinobi) and a couple of JH/Snare/whatever asset to force a couple of run and keep the runner poor and you win, quickly and easily.

If you don't run even better, I win even more easily.

And if you let me rez that SanSan (which means scoring and agenda with it) I'm perfectly happy: now have your run+trash (5 creds + whatever you need to break my ICEs, if you can), use all your money, and open for me a new score window for my 6th (or final) point.

I don't run midseasons because I completely ignore tags (I played a 100% FA deck), but even there it is a perfectly fine card as it is. Even a runner with only two tags (read: a guy who floats tag) means I can bloody psychographics fast advance an agenda for NO MONEY.

I like to stress that. NBN is the only corp that can fast advance agendas after a siphon. It doesn't need money.

tl;dr: NBN FA is the deck to beat. See this deck winning in Japan doesn't mean anything on their meta because this deck has HUGE possibiliy of winning anywhere. EVEN MORE in a meta which doesn't make run ;)
