Fear and Loathing in Laguna Velasco

PTD 453

3 wins, 2 losses with this deck at Reading Store Championship. Also performed well at a Reading GNK a few weeks prior.

I made the first version of this late October and I have been sitting on it until events came back around, though had a few tweaks since then. The last addition was DDoS in place of Mad Dash and Maw - I forgot those cards and just shoved something else in. Turns out DDoS is a good card.

The game plan is to use Spoilers and Gang Sign to slow down the corp from scoring while you are drawing 2-4 every turn with Laguna Velasco District. You are always drawing cards that you can play or ditch, giving you a nice steady high tempo. Eventually the corp either gets to match point or Fear the Masses gets to critical mass and it is time to go for it. Mill them out, or get a bundle of archives accesses.

It is a pretty run light deck without going off the dyper deep end. Most of the actual skill involved is just measuring your click-use against the opponents board state. Knowing what they want to score, when they want to score it, etc. Eater can be pretty nice to run random ice with, to remove some money from the game with minimal risk. The only time this ever lands a "full" combo is if you are against a deck with very bad luck or no scoring plan.

Spoilers and gang sign, a match made in heaven/hell, why are you using kim?

Spoilers and gang sign, a match made in heaven/hell, what's the benefit of kim for this deck?

Early game R&D accesses and Gang Sign triggers can clear out operations that may have otherwise sped up the corp.

Quetzal screams combo, Omar lacks influence, Alice is 50 cards, Null is a nonbo, and not running enough for Val or Reina. Kim is a really solid ID for any sort of anarch disruption gameplan.

I've been having a play with this deck over the last few days and I really like it! Good work. My win ratio isn't quite where I'd like it to be, but I think I need to get to grips with it. I dropped 1 Dirty Laundry & 1 Daily Casts to slot 2x Bhagat to further enhance every use of Fear The Masses (and still mill when you don't have them) and I've been finding it really powerful.

Great deck.

I've been trying this deck out for a few days and I love it. Great work. I made a slight tweak - I dropped 1x Daily Casts and 1x Dirty Laundry to slot 2x Bhagat to further enhance every HQ hit with the mill (and make Fear The Masses even more nasty). I'm liking the tweak, though taking out 2 economy cards for it might not be ideal.

Great deck.

Sorry for the multi post - site kept saying there was an error and now I can't remove those comments. Fail.

With regards to my comment above, I've slotted the 3rd Daily Casts back in and dropped to 1x Bhagat (so a swap of 1x Dirty Laundry for 1x Bhagat). I think this deck is excellent. I've always had trouble with CI and this has been walking all over it. I think I'm going to take this for a whirl at some store events. Thanks for the inspiration.

Glad you've been having fun with it! Ironically before the SC I was discussing with friends if I needed tech for CI brain rewiring as that looked to be the most popular deck. In the end I decided against making any changes, not realising that mill was already a good meta call.

I think I am shy of Bhagat as it more HQ reliance but it actually does play perfectly into the deck - both as a 3 cost resource (fits existing econ tempo) and as a Spoilers that you can ensure triggers. Personally I wish I could do something with R&D runs using Eater but not really anything in the cardpool for that right now... Unless you swapped a gang sign for an equivocation...hmm.

Is there any particular cards or timing that you plan to use Trope for?
