Startup Pod - er, Ob

JasonILTG 2

I enjoy the card Birthing Pod.

This list is heavily inspired by YsengrinSC's BathtOb Water standard list, except adapted for not having access to one of the best cards in that deck lol (Border Control).

Currently really like this list, except for:

  1. Second Regolith Mining License, I have no idea what to play instead of it and money is good
  2. Haven't played much with Maskirovka 1-of but I like having more 3-cost ice I want to rez early for the Stavka+Hafrun combo
  3. No idea what the meta looks like so idk if Crisium Grid is actually worth it
  4. Wish I had more ways to trash things at paid ability speed - really lamenting the lack of Border Control lol, but I didn't see anything to replace it (specifically 4s that trash at paid ability window)
  5. Maybe I have too many random one-ofs but I think it's fine
  6. Endurance is somewhat of an issue for this deck because it makes Stavka comboing much harder, but hopefully you can open scoring windows with ZATOs and stall the boat with Envelopments

The deck doesn't have enough 3's to trash to consistently get Hafrun. You also have too many 4's and 5's that don't turn into anything particularly useful. If you pod a 5, what are you getting? Stavka? Okay that's probably fine. Hortum? Probably not. Are you spending actions and money to advance Hortum? To what end? You want Enigmas. You want more Mavirus. Your pod chain is unclear and kind of all over the place.

You could clean up the agenda suite - you're running 11, when you can get by with 10 without having to run any 3/5's.

You should rethink your agenda cards. You're effectively only going to have two protected remotes - one for the pod chain money card (Regolith, Marilyn, etc.) and one to score out of. Cards like Cybersand and Syvatogor want an additional remote, and that's hard to set up and maintain with the rate that you're trashing ice, forcing them to fight with cards in the chain for spots on the board.

You're falling into the same trap that a lot of Pod decks did - too many tricks, not enough meat. Manegarm is wasted influence - it does the same thing as Hafrun+Stavka as a surprise End the Run. That influence could be better spent. I've personally been enjoying splashing cards like Sprint or Simulation Reset to get tutor targets back into the deck. You could also try Nanisivik, but the extra set up of getting ice facedown seems a bit much to me, given the deck is already going through a lot of "set up" steps. Something like Daily Business Show would also be alright, but again, that would compete for a spot in your remotes. Similarly, Magnet is a good trick, but because you are a tutor deck, you don't need more than one. Consider something like Rototurrent or Ballista for more shooting silver bullets.
