Unprofessional! 1st Place Beyond the Board, Columbus OH SC

Kalavouna 79

Runner deck I piloted during Swiss during the Store Championship at Beyond the Board in Columbus, Ohio. The tournament report will be at the end of the description.

Wasn't sure what Runner deck I wanted to bring, eventually decided on going with a deck I'd been working on since watching Beyoken try out a similar deck out of Maxx. Decks strong against Jinteki, Glacier and Boom! decks. Weak against CTM and other decks that Exchange of Information. Ikawah Project is also very annoying.

Works pretty simply, combine Obelus and God of War to get a huge hand size. Draw cards with your wealth of draw events, clicking to draw and just running open R&D and HQ. Feel free to run a remote if you think there's an agenda, since you run 3 Dean Listers you don't have to work too hard to save them. D4V1D also helps out with this. Close out the game with Mars for Martians>install Dean Lister>Install Counter Surveillance>Counter Surveillance R&D, or HQ if it's CI.

By Any Means and J Mercs helps if you have a bunch of remotes or you can use it with Counter Surveillance. You can also use the Hades Shard after Levying to be sure that you will draw back up and get your cards going again. Over all, it's very nice only needing 3 creds before going for your combo.

Tournament Report Corp tournament report is in the corp deck list. I was playing a rushy ASA.

Round 1 (0-0): Played against Luke on Oof Argus, so a very good matchup for me, made even better by having a early Obelus and God of War. Unfortunately I couldn't goad him into bankrupting himself to HHN me. Finished the game off a big Counter Surveillance on R&D after keeping a lock on the remote.

Round 2 (6-0): Jasper was playing a Punitive Harmony Medtech with Obokata, SSL and Medical Breakthroughs. I got lucky and scored a early Breakthrough off the top of R&D and got through a Quicksand to score a SSL because he didn't realize I was on Quetzal. I closed the game by scoring a Obokata with Ben Musashi out of the remote.

Round 3 (12-0): Played against Micah, who drove 2 hours with me from Dayton and is my normal play testing partner. Micah was on a mid-range AoT. I couldn't find my Obelus or God of War early, but be was struggling with a Hacktivist Meeting I had set out to slow him down. Eventually I got set up but he had a 4 deep R&D and a 3 deep scoring remote. I had gotten 2 points from something when I finally did a 8 deep Counter Surveillance run. Afterwards Micah accidentally shuffled his deck without thinking and took a game loss since we couldn't recreate the game state and couldn't think of a fair way to otherwise. After talking it over with him, I would have won anyway, because of an Ikawah that I knew was in R&D and a CST that got trashed from Hacktivist earlier that he had no way to get back.

Round 4 (18-0): Joey was playing a Punitive Skorpios, and gave me my only losses of the day. I stole a Graft using Quetzal to get through a Tithonium sacrificing a God of War in the process. The game stalled out for a little bit, but eventually I got to Counter Surveillance R&D for about 10, stealing 1 agenda. Afterwards I made a mistake. I knew I needed to levy and had overdrawn. I was afraid that he would Punitive me, hit the God of War and RFG it after using a Hunter Seeker to get my installed one and RFG it as well. So I discarded both the God of War and Special Order. Since he couldn't RFG both in the same turn, I instead basically put myself in the worst position I could have. Next turn he used Hunter Seeker on the installed one, I Levied to get a God of War back, and started frantically looking for one of the two ways I could get the God of War I needed to get into the remote (Protected by a Spiderweb and Tithonium). 5 turns later, he had scored six points and I had finally managed to install God of War on my last click. I screwed up but Joey played great capitalizing on my mistake.

The Cut (18-6): We cut to top 4, and I ended up in 2nd after the cut, with Joey in First. Micah unfortunately was in 5th and just missed the cut. I ended up playing corp for both of the rounds.

At the end of the day, I felt like Quetzal did well, the only change I wish I had made was change I've had worse to Injects. I didn't want to however because I didn't practice it beforehand and I was worried about trashing the first God of War I saw.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I've never played a tag-me strategy before. Can you shed some light on what you do regarding your resources, since a Corp can choose to trash them when you're tagged. Do you only play them on the turn you plan to use the ability? Are there certain resources that you feel comfortable keeping on the board? Thanks!
