Magnum Knightman (v1.1)

Ajar 1624

My current take on djackman's Knightman archetype. Added Inti to deal with Wraparound, and replaced ProCon with Opus to free up some card slots. Since Opus and Knight are click-intensive, I kept Daily Casts to provide some clickless econ. ProCon's draw is now 3x Diesel.

I like it!

I really would want to see more than one opus - increased likelyhood to not need to tutor for it is important, as that tutor could be used on a breaker instead.

Maybe something like -3 dirty laundry +1 mem chip +2 opus?

I think you're going in the right direction, for sure.

I could see -3 Laundry, +1 Opus, +1 Mem Chip, +1 Plascrete. Thanks!

There's also one spare influence floating around. I used it on Femme, because Femme, but it could potentially be a Stimhack, Yog, or something else.

If you're running test run, I think 1 femme is always a good choice. I cant say how many times that Test run > femme has scored me an agenda on turn 1 or 2. Just make sure you dont keep it in hand - its almost always more useful in heap or stack.

The only problem is that Test Run is otherwise not super useful. Other than getting Femme, I'd always rather be tutoring with SMC. Test Run is a weak backup for SMC when I want a Knight, Sharpshooter, Mimic, or Inti. It's okay if I want an Atman -- I can break the ice on one server, then next turn reinstall the Atman with a new number. I'm just not sure those cases really make it worthwhile.

I would actually consider Test Run to be a week backup of Clone Chip as I usually use TR to get back programs that found their way to the heap.

Clone Chips can actually back up the SMC as you can use the CC to find a SMC in your heap that you then use it to tutor the program you actually wanted out of your stack, all for the same cost/clicks as testrun without the post-turn drawback. Not ideal but works in a pinch.

Yeah, I've seen a couple of Shapers pull tricks like that. One used it to recur his Opus after I sniped it with a Grim, although the tempo loss was all I was looking for.

I just wonder if those uses plus Femme really make 3x Test Run worth it over something like 3x Quality Time. I dunno, though.

Abso-freakin-lutely. Test run is godly. Clone chip is great, but only heap. SMC is great, but only deck. The versatility of being able to do both is critical.

Its really, really, common for players to try to score agendas behind 1 ice early (turn 1/2) against shaper. With a test run in hand, you can inside job them. I'd say Test Run > Femme scores an agenda in 2/3rds of my matchups.

Its also great for self-trashing programs, which you are running (parasite and sharpshooter). You get around the downside of it going on top of your stack if you can just test-run recur a sharpshooter, faerie, or parasite.

Instant speed installs are great, and I think clone chip is probably the best tutor. But test run is still a close second, and I have found that the better I get at the game, the less I need to rely on instant speed installs as a security blanket.

Sure, there are many times where SMC is better. But you can only run 3 SMC. Also, I have recurred SMC with test run - expensive, but efficiency of getting into a remote is much less important than making sure you get in at all costs.
