I knew in July I had to grind for the MN regional. I had gotten third last year and getting a win would be sweet. Due to a job/other commitments I didn’t have as much practice time as I’d liked, so I started playing CTM. A week before the regional someone mentioned the SIU Judge combo (more on that later) and I was fascinated. Drudge work was another shot in the arm to the Gagarin Prison Archetype, and I knew that val had econ issues with prison decks. Sure enough, I swapped to Gagarin and began practicing. I played a ton of Cv Val against my brother, was satisfied, and sleeved it up for MN...
I played against val all day, 3 in swiss and 2 in the cut, and won all my games. Round 1: Melvin Melvin opened with good econ and began trashing my stuff. I managed to stabilize by clearing his bad pub with mills and slamming a paywall to clear estrike. After that I made money as he poked my centrals. Eventually I went broke on an SIU + HHN trace to tag him. Instead of clearing he clicked for a cred, installed lib and clicked twice, planning to clear next turn. Being broke, I shuffled in HPT with Museum and crossed my fingers. I top decked HPT, clicked for two creds and murdered him.
Round 2: Lucas I was worried because I knew Lucas was good, and he was on a prison deck, so I figured he know what to do. He started out by trashing my early econ but eventually gave up. We had a back and forth of estrike/paywall but eventually I was able to get a remote of a judge and SIU. He injected his turtle into the bin and so was forced to break tour guide with Mk Ultra. He stole a three pointer out of HQ, and then went broke on an indexing run, followed by a mad dash. I got really lucky, because he couldn’t run the tour guide twice and steal two agendas, luckily he could only mad dash an atlas and get to six. I followed up with HHN and killed him with HPT. A really close game.
Round 3: ??? (I didn’t get his name, but he was very nice! I think he was a MN local.) He had a rough start with very little econ, so he took a few turns to get set up. He tried to trash my econ assets. I cleared the pub and built a large board. He eventually tried to win on centrals but I iced him out, tagged him and killed him.
Round Four: Spags I was trying to win back my Zenbox spot, so ID’d with him.
Losers bracket game 1: Josh I had played Josh the night before and beat him with Gagarin. He seemed pretty out of it this game, missing credits, triggers and missing clicks. I opened with an incredibly strong start of CBG CBG Turtlebacks. We had a bit of a fight for the board but I was able to lock it down. I was super flooded and he CV’d 3 agendas into archives, but didn’t run. When it came to my turn I drudgeworked all 3 into RnD and had the game from there. I eventually killed him with an iced SIU, iced Judge and HPT otk.
Losers finals: Andrew I opened into museum Malia ice. He injected, played sure gamble and did some other stuff. Next turn I iced and installed a Rashida. I museum’d Rashida in, and within 5 turns I fired 3 Rashidas. He decided not to trash stuff, and rebirthed into omar, and single accessed two agendas off the top over two turns. I was sweating with an Atlas in hand, but I realized I had a money lead + HHN in my hand. I installed EBC, tutored for Judge, installed judge in an iced remote and HHN’d him. He omar runs rnd and sees HPT, he runs my hand and then does some other stuff. I forget my museum trigger, mandatory draw the HPT, and kill him. After the game Andrew said: “I thought I had a chance because of the museum trigger, but Whiteblade did the most Whiteblade thing, forget his trigger, and killed me”
Overall I really enjoy playing the deck. I’d prob cut the hostile for other stuff, unless you expect apoc. If you wanna pick my brain about matchups or card choices, msg me on slack. Thanks for reading!
