Syncopation (5-3 At Worlds)

Whiteblade111 3051

Hi! This deck went 5-3 at Worlds and is completely homemade. It was born out of a love of supermodernism and Weyland, and my frustration at a lack of supermodernism in the meta made me build this deck. While it isn't supermodernism it is still that rushdown do or dare style that I love to play.

Before I explain the deck in the full, I just want to give a shoutout to the Winnipeg Meta for helping me practice the deck, A Muse N Games for getting my DnD on time, and above all else Chris McCulloch for testing and advice on the deck. It wouldn't be in it's current state without him.

Win condition:

You really have two win conditions with this deck. The first is astro. Score one and chain into the next astros. Often you can bluff an astro facedown in your remote, espically if you've conditioned them by scoring QPM's behind a data raven. Once you score one you can usually apply a lot more pressure on the board. It becomes easier to score out with astroscript in this because often QPM will become your 6th and 7th point you need to win the game, once they lock you down the clot.

Your second win condition is killing them with scorched earth. This is much more common and easier against Shaper as they don't pack IHW. You don't want to go too hard on the kill condition, but keep it in your backpocket. You want them to tag themselves so just wait and land the kill if you can. If you can't, you can still score agenda points.

Econ:

This deck runs a very fluid set of event econ. Your econ can make you very rich very fast if you run into a bunch of it, and it won't clog up your hand or create remotes for criminals.

Ice:

This deck runs a combonation of tagging and ETR Ice. Your goal is to put out the tagging ice and make the anxious about the tags. You need to be able to read your opponent. If you know that he's just not going to give a shit about the tags, you need to split your etr ice over RnD and your remote, to have a chance at scoring. I almost always put Archangel over RnD as a tax, and unless you're pulling off some weird them taking a tag and scoring you the 7th point, always put gutenberg over RnD

Playstyle:

This deck is 80% reading your opponent. You need to be able to guage how scared they are of the tags, if they're super judicious about clearing the tags that means a double data raven remote will punish them and you can get free agenda points from there. Likewise if they just don't get a shit about tags then you need to prioritize ice placement. Often HQ is safe due to a lack of trashable assets, and the worst they'll get off HQ is infomation or agenda points, ice at your own need.

Specific plays:

Ghost branch is great at baiting out a clot once you've scored one astro. Really good against shaper in that respect. News team can check how willing they are to run your scoring remote, and a QPM behind a data raven in a scoring remote can also check their agression. Often a turn two astro behind a data raven will go unchecked, espically if you have more money then them, which sets your up quite nicely.

I hope you enjoy the deck! I have plenty of fun playing it and I get good results from it. If you have any specific matchup questions just ask in comments.
