AlPi's First Dive Into Worlds (25th, 52th @ Worlds 2023)

ayyyliens 652

This is the runner deck @AlPi and me brought to worlds. I played it in the CoS side event and Worlds ending it on a 11-3 record.

My corp was JackMade's Ob with the following adjustments: -1 icewall +1 crisium

After my terrible peformance during Belgian nats I had to rethink what I was going to play at worlds. AlPi managed to secure 2nd place on Belgian nats with a Deep Dive Lat list which peaked my curiousity. Surely such a list would easily be countered once your opponents know you are on a deep dive plan right?

Turns out that card draw, money, breakers and a simple gameplan works wonders. I started testing the list and quickly noticed a few patterns:

  • It absolutely destroys R+ (both brawler and asset based lists)
  • The Asa/PD skunkvoid matchup was actually not terrible
  • Relatively easy to pilot (handy when the venue heats up to 30 degrees for the entire day)
  • Glacier/Outfit decks fall to your strong lategame rig
  • Lots of 3xofs so you have spares incase you face PE

Asset based matchups are a bit shaky (the Urban renewal Ob lists go a little too fast), Combo Ob is terrible (mad/eotl) but slightly slower lists are do-able.

At CoS I faced:

  • 2x A Teia
  • 2x Asa
  • Jakuza's excellent Amani/cryptocrash NEH: I lost this one, should be beatable

Main event:

  • 3x Variations of FA Outfit (lost 1 due to some deep dive whiffs and missing single accesses on a rather agenda rich HQ)
  • PE
  • 6pt Azmari (the other loss of the day, deep dived and missed the last send the message in R&D)
  • Tucana/Kimberlite Ob
  • 2x Asa
  • A Teia

Lets talk cards:

Swift

Aside from the obvious synergy with deep dive, this card gives you the needed tempo to contest some of the faster decks. Allows you to run bioroid remotes, use clicks and steal ikawah's.

Dj Fenris

I picked sable over steve in most of my matches. The recursion is nice but you dont run HQ that much and you have so many 3xofs that you can just draw whatever you need. Starting your turn with a marked central, bahia bands, draw and install a breaker and ending up with 5 clicks feels illegal.

Propeller

In this slot we tested slap vandal and pichação. Slap Vandal was versatile and cheap but locks you into one server. Pichação has synergy with deepdive but gets trashed most of the time before you can use it. Propeller allows you to break a Bran once very cheapy, lots of small barriers exist in the current meta and with turbine can function as a proper breaker. it was also crucial to have an extra breaker to pump echelon strength to 6 and a cheap way to make Unity not suck early.

Pinhole

Mostly used to snipe a crucial upgrade from the remote or kill a crisium on a central if you want to deep dive

Bahia bands

I would play 3 of these in every runner deck if I could. It has use in every matchup. Clear tags/assets, forward tempo with the draw + install. Gives you a swift click. You can cut one for a buzzsaw or a hush (especially if Pharos is going to make a comeback)

Some notes on the worlds event: I cannot stress enough how much I appriciated the help I recieved from the NSG volunteers. Helping me find my pairings, bringing back agenda's that I lost and taking care of me when my illness worsened during swiss. I met so many nice people, had a blast with my buddies from switzerland. Thanks to all the belgian players who helped me train during the weeks before and the support from home!

The only deck that I felt I was in danger while I was playing with my 6mari. That second dive made my heart skip a beat or two. Congrats on yours results!

That Azmari game was exactly the sort of game that makes netrunner great: Tense, balanced, cool suprises (rime), an epic last turn and an enjoyable opponent. It was nice meeting you and ill hope I will get my revenge one day!
