[Startup] End the Run, keep it Fun! - 3d @GNK Milano Startup

When Nanisivik Grid was playable in standard, I was h24 playing with it. So I had to give it a chance in startup. There’s no Kaku helping, but I thought that if I was able to fill archives with more ices it wouldn’t matter. And so it didn’t.

The gameplan is not simple early on, but becomes an autopilot once the setup is complete (one nani on every central), in italy we say that you are “ciabattato”.

Runners are not really rich in startup and a lot of their economy is run-dependant. Even having boat is not a solution to the economy, cause you have to keep it up on counters. So I thought that making runs unsuccesful was a winning gameplan. Early on we do economy and we ice our centrals. Use the hansei to get ices with “end the run” into archives. Once we have at least 2 we can start installing our nanisivik (starting from protecting archives). At that point starts the most critical part of our game. If the runner understands what’s going on and has a pinhole the game becomes more difficult (he has to run one of the other 2 iced centrals). Once there’s a nani on every central is almost over. Usually you want to score the elivigar and 3 3/2 or all the 3/2, but if early game the runner steals the 2/1 and one of the four 3/2 there’s a mono Big Deal to help you scoring a 5/3 aswell. During the tournament I always managed to score the 2/1 and had to big deal a 3/5 only once cause the runner was already at 5 points and I still hadn’t found the siviks.

Make sure that installed ices matter. If the runner can spend 2 credits to get into the server, having nanisivik won’t matter at all.

Ended the day with a 4/1, losing to wowarlok’s padma in a game where I’ve seen 5 ices in total and almost every agenda. Funniest game of the day was against cros’ Steve, where I managed to fire 12 end the run from archives, allowing me to have enough time (4 turns) to score everything from hand.

My runner was a classic Padma boat with 2 Hush (testing on jinteki, anvil and funhouse were everywhere) so it was a meta call.
