Keep that frog Jumping 🐸 (1st AusNats Startup Side event)

Happy Froggy

Credit to a local for Frog Brooches! Great way to track my Ari trigger.

Since playing my Priv access Ari and falling in love with the ID, startup Nats was a great opportunity to pull out Ari, and play it in person!

Window of Opportunity is a mind boggling card to use in Ari. The power creep of this card in Startup is INSANE. I wish I went to 3x and use it to shut down early charlotte pushes. Or late game its an incredible tempo surprise.

A line for this card I unfortunately didn't get to use was run double Ice remote - Window + De-rez MIC + install Muse pull Physarum on the MIC. The GREAT thing about this is reactionary play from the runner side, being able to hold the ari trigger for the corps moves are great, and Window enables this.

Second ice in this case was BRAN and credits were LOW for corp, so I just install Slap vandal using ari and click through ETR, allowing the install of new ice. Now lets say the second ice were to be another MIC, I only have one Physarum in the deck, so I probably can't get through that MIC right? Let's go through my discovery of game rules below!

Learning game rules to become a better player!

I had to raise my hand to call "Judge!" at this event after querying my opponent on a game rule we weren't sure about. Please do this at your tournaments! Judges are there to make a neutral decision to align with the game rules and make both players feel more confident about the play happening. Yes it interrupts the game, no your opponent doesn't care, its just how it is, please don't be shy to raise your hand, judges love telling people how to play.

Onto this Ruling: "When installing a program, the Runner may first trash any number of programs already installed...."

Therefore "When installing a program (muse), the Runner may first trash any number of programs (Physarum) already installed...."

Now, trying my best to use layman's terms. We are allowed to move trojans around using muse. In this example, first trashing Physarum and then pull that same Physarum back from the heap to reinstall on the next ice, this can happen mid-run with Ari install or on any install of a program. Meaning muse can be your on-command Spree!

For you standard players this will obviously work with any install, think Simulchips, SMC's, Paule's Cafe ..... These all use Muse to become portable Sprees!

FaQ's myself, and opponents had about this ruling

  • Will Muse and Physarum be trashed from Arissana's ID clause?
    • Arissana's ID will only trash the program it installs (if its not a trojan), whatever card Muse installs is installed from Muse - not from Arissana's ID. So the resolution here is Muse is trashed, Physarum remains untouched
  • How can Physarum bypass an ice that was just rezzed? Doesn't the encounter begin so its passed the window to use Physarum?
    • No, a common misconception for me when I started playing is that the ability window closes once the ice is rezzed. but the ice Rez is just another ability used, which the corp can extend with further abilities, and the runner can respond to with their own abilities. In this case Arissana can install a program as a part of this window, as the corp rezzed an ice, proceeded with no further action and then the other player (the runner) must act or state no further actions. Once both players have no further actions, we proceed to the encounter step. Find more info on the rules page refer to "6.9 Steps of a run" specifically step "6.9.2(b)".

This was a fantastic event with a heap of new faces in our local Meta. Keen for many many more to come, especially with the new tournament structure coming in. And also getting to learn new things still 3 years into the game is a great feeling!
