RICHfork (Hyperfork Kate - 3rd Place Madison Nationals)

Dheraz 198

Inspiration from: https://netrunnerdb.com/en/decklist/32536/pitchfork-sure-gamble-is-a-crutch- but I'd also like to give credit to Xer0h0ur who played the earliest version of the deck I saw at the Pastimes Store Champ and might have started the whole craze!

"That's nice, but wouldn't it be better in Kate?" - Abraham Lincoln (and also every pro-netrunner player ever (except for Spags.))

Honestly the write-up could probably end here. But I'll go on.

This deck went 3-2 in the Swiss taking me to 3rd place in the Madison Regional beating two Palana, one Gagarin MoH, and getting scorched by Will Brown's Blue Sun and a Building a Better World. After the cut, it came back and beat Will's Blue Sun but lost to Spags playing IG-- which I decided not to tech against.

The premise here is pretty simple, you're sacrificing your hidden information (which breakers Haley is capable of installing from hand mid-run) and some click efficiency for the ability to go even (or above with good draw!) in credits with Palana Foods and Blue Sun. Haley players: the most difficult thing about switching over to this form of the deck is remembering that you cant let your breakers sit in hand. Corporation players: don't forget that Kate has a link when doing your math, it wins games.

If you play patiently, this deck can easily accidentally go up to 50 credits.

Political Operative was the dud of the day: I would much rather win a psi game than spend two clicks and who knows how many credits running HQ and installing it. A smart corporation will put an ETR code gate on HQ forcing you to spend a Scavenge or Clone Chip getting your Cyber Cypher back where it needs to be afterwards. If you hate playing psi games, this card may still be a good choice, but it doesn't fit my playstyle.

The Artist Colony/Fan Site combo is a crutch. First Spags called out Sure Gamble and now I'm laying down another harsh opinion with my variant deck. I only tutored a single card using this combo in all seven matches I played and I would much rather have four or five other tech cards than five easy marks. Granted: I didn't play any NEHFA so if that's more popular in you're meta, this combo may still be helpful. I honestly believe its not necessary for that matchup either though. My recommendation is to swap them for the third SMC, the third Scavenge, and two (or three if you want to go back up to 46) flex slots that could potentially be cards like Diesel, a second Plascrete, Indexing, or Net Shield.

I installed Mimic in two out of seven games. I would rather swap it out for a second Atman-- allowing me to install one at 4 and one at 5 for Ichi/Assassin Palana matchups and one at 2 and another at 6 for Spiderweb/Archer Weyland matchups. This, along with the dropped Political Operative gives me two free influence! So many exciting options! I haven't honestly given it enough thought to make a recommendation here.

Have fun playing Netrunner, friends!

How useful were the hyperdrivers? Are you using SMC to get them early game or hoping to draw them early game? Mid to late your MU is going to be too full to utilise them?

the artist colony/fan site econ engine makes no sense in Kate, which is why it feels like a crutch to you. Hayley gets to install fansites for a "half click" and, at a minimum, sell them for 3 creds for aesops. Kate would never waste time doing this because she has to spend a full click and gets no discount for resources (much less a 0 cost one). Tutoring with AC is also weaker for Kate, again, because it isn't also an out-of-hand install enabler.
