Turbo Hoshiko (4th Victoria CO)

Xtreme 164

Introduction

I decided to visit my dear friend Dave (Ghostmeat) and took the trip from Denmark to Canada during his spring break. By pure coincidence it happen to match with Victoria CO, so had to brew some decks for my trip.

This is the Hoshiko deck I went with after some intense testing resulting in some good tweak for the last card slots. The deck idea is based on lostgeeks Swiss National decks which uses Turbine. Turbine is a nuts card in late game, so that is why I went with two copies and wanted to test it out in a tournament.

That is a good idea

I went 3-1 in the swiss rounds and scored a solid 4th place in a 16 person tournament with Dave, Ryan (Hams) and Eric (Whiteblade111). I'm pretty proud to reach the top cut for the first time even though I lost all my matches after the swiss rounds.

Strategy

The strategy for the deck is pretty simple and follows the well-known structure of:

  • 1: Econ
  • 2: Setup
  • 3: ???
  • 4: Win

If you manage to have two turbine up and running, you break everything for pennies and it is then hard for the corp to keep you out.

Round 1: Thule

My first round was against a Thule deck, where I got a lucky stargate hit on an Ikawah pretty early and kept the pressure on and secured a win from Achieve.

Round 2: The Outfit

The second round resulted in a kill from a pretty spicy outfit deck, where I hit a Prices early and ended my turn within the danger zone of End the line kill. The Corp played super well and won with a solid move to trick me into running.

Round 3: Mirrormorph

Got a good win against a Mirrormorph in mid-game with a solid rig setup. MM had scored an early Vitrivus with a counter, and I had hit some good agendas with a stargate run. The corp decided to use the Vitrivus counter to score out a GFI with MCA to get to 5-2 (to the corp at the time), but unfortunaly it was hard for the corp to keep me out after I was all setup.

Round 4: Thule

This was one of the more interesting games, since it was a close call for both of us. It could have gone both way, but I managed to secure a win after some lucky twinning hits in R&D.

Top cut

After four rounds back-to-back and one beer at each round (except the first one) it was time to the top cut. I got a chance to play my hoshiko against the same Outfit I lost to, but couldn't secure a win and lost by being to greedy and not being in the head of the money game. Lost by a HHN+False lead kill and there was no doubt my opponent was the better player. Both games against the outfit was a good learning experience, and it have helped me a lot to be more aware of all the warning signs.

I would like to thank the Victorian and Vancouver netrunner meta for a really great tournament. It was a pleasure to meet all of you in person and I enjoyed every game and conversation with all the cool people. Thank you Eric for our Canadian Politics conversation, and would have love if we had it doing a netrunner game - Let's hope that happens another time.

A huge thanks to James for TO the tournament and also a special thanks from the bottom of my heart to my netrunner Mentor Dave for being a great host doing my trip to Victoria, and for playtest this deck with me.

Hope to cross path with all the Victorian & Vancouver people again in the near future.

Was a pleasure to meet you in Victoria and thanks for coming on our little pub crawl! Congrats on the result and big respect for the ITYSL meme 🙏 Excited to try this deck at pubrunner tomorrow. Next time in Denmark we see how well Netrunner cards hold up in the sauna!
