My corp deck for Hack O' Lantern V. The Austin, TX meta has an annual "Costume Party" event: take any ID from the game's history and put it in another faction (this year with the Standard card pool). This deck was easy to craft. Haas-Bioroid: Replicating Perfection. I enjoyed playing PrisonMorph at casuals back in the spring. Combine it with its sibling Blighttown, use Replicating Perfection as the costume ID so we don't need the Front Company, and season to taste with the extra 6 influence.

I also had a less evil runner deck.

Influence:

  • 2x Bladderwort: Econ that's annoying to trash. The chip damage got some good stuff out of the runners' grips and kept them on their toes.
  • Drudge Work: Saved my butt during a rotten mid-game.
  • JK: An unorthodox include, but I had 3 spare influence and one card slot. The runner's not going to prioritize trashing this with their precious clicks. It's a rez for Working Prototype. It let's you play games on the install when you click it. And if I can't throw in JK as extra econ in an otherwise well-oiled machine, when can I? Only saw it in one game, and I had fun using it.
  • 3x Spin Doctor
  • Ganked!: Always a fun include. Got a kill!
  • Mavirus: Cautious anti-virus tech. Beat a clot with it.

Other Deck Thoughts:

  • Took AlPi's advice on Sprint being a good idea. Didn't end up seeing play on the day, but having hand fixing is always a comfort.
  • Subliminal Messaging felt less important without MirrorMorph games.
  • The Rashidas were almost Marilyn Campaigns, before I remembered Rashida.
  • You ever consider Eli 1.0 over Hákarl 1.0 because your cheapest "End the run." ice costing 5 in the early game seems dangerous? Hakarl is dangerous... for the runner. Plus it lets you derez a Spin Doctor.
  • Tyr always found itself on Archives because I always had the other centrals covered. He does a fine job over there.
  • I only ever iced centrals. Having "Front Company: The ID" lets you get away with that easier because it's always in the runner's way.
  • Your lines and goals are obviously quite similar to PrisonMorph and Blighttown. Go read the work of brighter minds than I. Get ice on centrals, build out your asset spam, MCA is nearly mandatory. You'll have a lot of assets, so mind your triggers.

The Games

TL;DR: 1-1-1, in that order. Dire early game got to perfect prison and Ganked! kill while in final score waiting room. Prison worked until I threw the game by forgetting to derez a Trieste. Prison was fully operational, but a severely flooded mid-game ended in a 3-3 tie.

  • Round 2 v. Crystal's Anarch "Chiselled Abs" Mercury. Beautiful work on the custom alt art for this. Won best costume for a reason. Ice destruction and Mercury quickly got to 6 point, but I got the prison online and scored back to five. Working Prototype kept Bankhar at bay. I was poised to be able to score out when I next drew an agenda. Last chance, Crystal ran HQ Hakarl w/ Bankhar & three cards in hand (no Steelskins, stack was thin or empty at this point). No agendas, but installed Ganked! into Hakarl Core Kill. (R&D was locked shut.) Win.
  • Round 3 v. Ezra's Shaper Zahya. Trick Shots and Maker's Eyes. I get a Lady Liberty score (but can't Warm Reception it). It's 6-5 in my favor when time is called on the round. Decent ice setup and nice asset spam supporting it. I can't score out on my last turn (could with one extra), so I MCA and credits. Ezra runs R&D, and I realize I should've Warm Reception derezzed my Trieste on my last turn. Would've guaranteed an Ansel last subroutine hit on either the Ansel or Ravana. R&D gives up the agenda. Loss.
  • Round 5 v. Shane's Shaper Sable. The extra Sable click and Pinhole give him the clicks to keep some of my board down. Tries to DJ Fenris for Sable (which is allowed in this beautiful format) but I spend my next turn making sure I can Working Prototype it back to the stack and later luck into hitting it out of hand with damage. MCA to fast advance a Send a Message (with Mavirus beating the clot) gets me 3 points and he steals 3. This is also the game where I have fun with JK. Over the course of the game I Warmly Received the same Spin Doctor 7+ times. My hand is a Restore and 4 3-point agendas. I luck into Drudge Work and begin cleaning up with a pretty secure R&D, but draw another agenda and scoring is still a bit away, so I get it to Archives for Spin Doctor. We both muddle around without making much progress (he without the tools to get in and I without the agendas to score). Time is called. Tie.

General Tournament Thoughts

  • Austin, TX Meta is great! Been down a couple times before from Dallas, and it's always been worth the trip. Thank you branimated for putting on the event! Everyone there was a true joy to spend the afternoon with!
  • I just moved from Dallas to San Antonio and haven't gotten to play Netrunner in over a month. A low stakes tournament in an oddball format for funzies was just what I needed. Most fun I've had for a while! Also really glad to see my Dallas pals blurbie, platypus2600 (is this you, Will?), and spookydana (even if you had other things to do in town)!
  • In deck building, corps feel like there are a lot of interesting and rude options available. There are a couple mean runner options you can theorycraft, but it mostly felt like "take a good deck and swap the value ID" because as runner you've gotta be ready to face some spooky stuff.
  • In play, the busted corps dominated the field. And for a fun little tournament where everyone gets to take turns hopefully being that busted corp, I had fun from both sides. And I heard about some evil runner decks, too.token for a facedown, giving me the Slash and Burn (6-5). I run HQ (1 card there). He uses the last Atlas token to pull a Too Big to Fail, so it's a 50/50. I access the Too Big to Fail (other card was a Basalt Spire apparently). Sad trumpets. Running R&D (knowing it's futile), he rezzes a triple advanced Tree Line and I can't get in. Time is finally called (it's the last round and we're the only table still playing). I'm up on points, so there's a slim chance. He top decks another Atlas, Basalt token for Audacity, fast advances to 7. Loss.
