Captain Kit Hyperactively Knits a Twinning

Hi! I’m writing this to share a new player experience at Worlds. I started playing Netrunner in June of 2022, playing the System Gateway decks and then moving onto startup. I started playing standard via jnet about a month before the tournament.

Why Kit? The honest answer is that I played a lot of Kit in startup, and I didn’t want to change much. The plan is also very simple, and as a new player, I didn’t want too much to think about - remembering all of the pre-turn triggers was enough.

The plan is to mulligan for Hyperbaric, and pressure the corp early, while trying to bank cash for the mid-late game. If we can find an agenda early, that sets us up very well for later, where we use our Mantles to boost Hyperbaric, get Twinning counters, and go hard on centrals. The closer of course is Deep Dive.

This deck went 3-4 on the day, which I’m really proud of as a new player, especially since this was a deck I’ve been curating in startup mostly on my own with very few changes (the Rezeki ban hurt this deck a lot). It’s obviously not a tier-1 deck, but it’s relatively simple to play and fun. (Or maybe it just shows boat is too strong, idk). It lost to R+ twice, CtM, and Sports, and beat Outfit, Ob and Acme.

The Netrunner community is awesome. I came to Toronto on my own from Chicago and met so many cool people. My opponents were all really great as well. I kept asking to read cards that I wasn’t familiar with, and everyone was really cool about that. And even when I got blown off the board by some combo I wasn’t ready for, nobody rubbed it in or was an ass about it.

I’m showing the game to anyone here who will listen. I’ve played a lot of other competitive CCGs and LCGs, and there’s just nothing quite like it. I feel like I have 10 years of stuff to catch up on, but I’m in no rush. I had an amazing experience and I did FAR better than I was expecting.

I’d also like to thank NSG for everything they are doing. It’s just incredible to me that this is a volunteer organization. The emphasis on inclusion is very inspiring. I love the ability to just print your own cards to play at a tournament. The commitment to removing all barriers for people to participate is awesome. Thank you for all of your efforts in keeping the game going, running a fantastic event, and continuing to print really fun cards!

Would consider using Overclock with Hyperbaric
