six seamless (2-1 at August EMEA AMT)

harmonbee 925

This is the deck I played at the August EMEA AMT, going 2-1. My disappointing performance with girls, a deck I should be good at, meant that I came 11th - sadly meaning that I lost to my new nemesis DiscordBee and thus have to quit Netrunner for good. /lh

This writeup is a bit short - I was asked to publish this list, but I don't have loads to say about it except for a few cute Ob lines you might enjoy. The writeup for girls has a lot more in it, so check that out if you're looking for a longer writeup from me!

I have played rush Ob since Ob's release [harmonbee 2023a, 2023b, 2024a, 2024b]. I've dabbled in a few other corps, and played different stuff in startup, but have generally focused on Ob. I have my own little niche and I've stuck to it.

Recently, I played Ob at Bristol Regionals with my deck called five seamless, which ran 3x Seamless Launch (and 2x Audacity which can act as Seamless in a pinch) for early scores. The aim was simple: score early (made possible because Seamless is cheap), get an Archer and a second ice, keep scoring.

At Bristol, this did not happen. Runners were able to get in earlier and steal many early scoring attempts. They could steal SDS without too much hassle. Additional R&D pressure meant that leaving it open caused issues. In the end, my partner AceEmpress knocked me out of cut contention with my own Runner deck. (Given that it meant she went 4-0 with Akiko, I can't complain too much!)

I knew that I needed to fix my Ob if I wanted to feel in control of games. Unfortunately, there aren't many Ob builders in QEH - this was more my personal project than a QEH thing. Fortunately, I'd recently got a girlfriend in krysdreavus, who has played a reasonable amount of rush Ob.

Ey took a look at the deck and said "have you considered adding more Seamless Slash and Burn Agriculture instead of SDS?" So we added 2x Slash and Burn by dropping a single SDS and an Audacity, and made a few other tweaks. (Spoiler alert: ey made the correct call.)

This went 2-1 at the AMT, losing one game because I installed a Tranquility rather than a Border Control on the second last turn and got Deep Dived for five points. This deck feels so much better than the previous version simply because you have a second option for scoring an early agenda: fast advance with Slash and Burn.

"But Phoebe," The hypothetical counterexample rears its head. "Giving up two points to score one or two points that you might end up forfeiting anyway seems like a bad exchange!" Worry not, little hypothetical friend, for this can be solved with Ob:

  • If you score Eminent, grab an Archer and put it on Archives. Soon enough you can rescue the Slash and Burn with Spin or Descent or whatever, and you can move the Archer back to a sensible server with Thimblerig (found via trashing any of your 3c cards).
  • If you score Azef Protocol, you can trash a 1c card to grab a Spin Doctor with Ob.

The first option also opens up the opportunity for the world's sickest Armed Asset Protection.

Plan A is still to rush out the first agenda behind a piece of ice, but this gives us an additional option. I wouldn't fast advance super early unless you're desperate: you should get a Rashida going first if you can.

A quick note on mulligans: this deck needs to go fast. You are mulliganing for a card to put in a remote and an ice to protect it, not two ice to protect centrals. Of course, use your judgement, but don't keep a two ice + Hedge hand and then end up stalling because you find nothing to put in a remote.

I don't have that much more to say, this is otherwise pretty standard for rush Ob - my other writeups linked earlier say a little more of worth. But I hope you enjoy, and I'll answer any questions as they come up!
