A reprint of Xanadu, but in the correct faction. Criminals are the one doing economic warfare.
Same price, but with an added text that means it is still possible to use the card if it comes in hand late in the game.
But how good is the card? Let's examine this. On average, a corp has 15 ices in their deck. Of those about 8 to 10 ices will be resized in a game, more in a longer game, less in short games. For our calculations, we will take 9, as the number of ices rezzed. This means, if you install the card early, that the corp would need to spend 9 more than normal. With an average ice cost of 3, it is the equivalent of rezzing 3 more ices. This will usually result in the corp rezzing less ices, to account for scoring agendas and using assets/upgrades. Considering a capacity to rez 9 ices in an average game, the corp would be able to rez 6 or 7 ices, that is about 2 less ice rezzed. Even mid game, it might prevent the rez of one ice. In effect, it is like a bypass of those ices that were not rezzed, since you now pass those ice at no cost.
This card makes Tatu-Bola barely playable, it makes Bloop and Lycian Multi-Munition prohibitively expensive. But the best is that is nullify the credit gain from Stegodon MK IV.
Fransofia Ward also combine well with derez effect from Maglectric Rapid (748 Mod) and “Baklan” Bochkin (nobody re-rez a card under Tranquilizer). Better yet, it ensure that Tread Lightly allow the runner to pass any unrezzed ice, because +4 to rez an ice is back breaking.
Considering that with elevation, the economic power of crop has been lowered, Fransofia Ward is actually a fairly good.
Out of faction, 3 influences is too expensive, unless you try for a concept deck. Usually, Tread Lightly would give better results. But Sebastião Souza Pessoa: Activist Organizer could benefit from this card, since most Seb deck do ice destruction and since Fransofia Ward is a connection, it can be installed clicklessly and at a discount.
As of mid 2025, this card is very much underplayed (read : nobody use it in a competitive deck). But I feel this card has it place in the meta, especially for criminals and obviously for the one that is shown on the art : Barry “Baz” Wong: Tri-Maf Veteran.
The art is very cool and it is nice to see support from a character to another character. Imagine if Fransofia Ward was an ID, that would be epic. Quote goes well with this. Of course, since it is a named connection, it has no relation to the effect of the card, but that is to be expected. I'm glad for this reprint, and having that additional text is fun. Good work.
