Does the Runner pay the core damage cost before or after removing Running Hot from the grip when playing it?

Running Hot is placed into the play area and then the cost for playing the event is paid, including the additional cost of suffering a core damage. The core damage cannot trash the copy of Running Hot that was played.

Reviews

A fuctional reprint of Amped Up. Will see tons of play in the new anarch Esa because of xir ability, but other anarchs (especially the ones who are still pulling off Apoc post-rotation) will happily consider this card as well. Also worth considering if you're on Deep Dive. Not much else to say about it. Putting yourself in harm's way to get a chance at messing up the corp. Still as anarch as ever.

I don't know about pairing this with Deep Dive though, unless you like to take risks.

So it's like, play Running Hot, trash Deep Dve from your hand (doh!), run all three servers (possibly sustaining damage), then trash Buffer Drive to put Deep Dive on the top of the stack, then draw and play Deep Dive?

Has NISEI explained why this card doesn't say "Amped Up" at the top? Leech technically functions differently from Datasucker (not that I've ever seen the tiny distinction matter), but this seems functionally identical.

(Midnight Sun Booster Pack era)

The core damage is an additional cost instead of part of the effect. It's a tiny distinction (like Leech v Datasucker), but it's not identical. If for instance you had a Runner effect that let you play an event "ignoring all costs", you could skip the core with Running Hot (but would still take it from Amped Up).
