The Midnight Snack - 11th @ Worlds 2023

Epic Story, 5 Stars

In truth I can't even take credit for 99% of this deck, Jai's Midnight Mission was just such a strong starting point that after a couple of very minor edits it proved to be an aggressive and consistent enough gameplan to go undefeated at world's 2023.

The +1 SFV for a YDL was to shore up the cases where the runner goes tagme (which happens a lot) so you can close out quickly before they get a board control. Between the b1001's, the federals and the Lady Liberty there's a lot they must trash but if they go tagme in the process you need a way to score cleanly from hand.

The swap from DBS to a third 1001 should speak to the sheer power of this beloved bioroid, if the runner leaves it for even one turn they've opened up a scoring window behind a Funhouse where if they attempt to contest they just wont have enough money or clicks to remain untagged for long (at which point you rez the cheeky second B1001 to deny them all access whilst you score out).

Score an ares as soon as possible, even if it leaves you with limited credits, the tempo from them clearing or giving you money/draw to score out is huge and will carry you through to a very favorable position. If you suspect deep dive is coming B1001 and a ping on archives is more than enough to jam it and regular pokes on centrals just aren't possible once a second funhouse is out with b1001, this enforcer is incredibly versatile at stopping runners ignoring the remotes which is essential in this centrals focused meta.

A big thanks to all of the NSG crew at worlds, an amazing tournament as ever and already looking forward to next year!

Congrats on the placement! I'm so happy that R+ assets is still alive. Did you consider any alternative tag punishment cards over the second Shipment?

Thank you :D I did briefly test retribution and self growth program but found that in most cases I was just really wanting an SFV to close as it was otherwise dependent on getting B1001/the agenda itself locked in place behind a ping and a starlit to stop them just stealing after going tagme. B1001 themselves is reasonable enough single tag punishment I think so having active tag punishment only be SFV seemed workable.

Great write-up and congratulation on the placement!

Why the VSA instead of more Starlit? I would have imagined that Starlit would be the star of the show.

Cheers!

I'll take this one if you don't mind :)

Having VSA in the deck is a strong deterrent to early Runner aggression, it beats Botulus, Boomerang, Bankhar, who otherwise walk though basically the entire ice suite here. Having access to a refundable facecheck is also critical in early turns before your econ stabilises.

I can't speak for anyone else, but in my testing I regularly found Starlit to be by far the worst card in the deck. It's only here because the deck shaved so many tag punishment slots that you're kind of forced to compress some of it into your ice suite as well.

Of course the actual author @ExtraC can feel free to correct me on any of these points if I'm wrong!

Spot on, Jai. I found that starlit is really really nice once they've gone tagme but before that even if it fires the cost benefit ratio just doesn't match up to something like VSA. Given how poor this deck can run before you gain board control a 5 cost ice that can be broken easily in its basic state by many different runner cards is hard to justify at more than a one of...until they go tagme and you suddenly wish you had 3 of them xD
