Generally, I tend to build Runner decks that are full of events. Immediate returns seem to win me over return on investments. For this deck, I approach things differently, keeping Sure Gambles in nevertheless ;). The other events (Levy AR Lab Access and Steelskin Scarring) I choose to work well together with my console and at the same time bone of this deck: Patchwork.
Why is Patchwork so good? It provides a discount of 2 credits once per turn (whenever it suits you) when playing or installing a card. How? By trashing another card from your grip. Of course, that is a down side, especially against Corps that aim to flatline you. It is also not that easy to fuel enough card draw to make this happen consistently. Do you remember that resource from the original core set? Enter Wyldside! At the start of each of your turns, you draw 2 cards by losing 1 click. Compensate for this click loss by finding and installing Adjusted Chronotype and you are ready to rumble!
OK, this takes setup time, but since you will be trashing a lot of cards once Patchwork is on the board, you can easily include 3 copies of important stuff like Gachapon, your Icebreakers, and not in the last place: Patchwork and Wyldside themselves. In other decks, you wouldn't want that, but now there is no downside to including 3 copies of cards that you will only install a single time. Gachapon helps you finding Icebreakers, Imps, a Leech, an Ice Carver and your Turning Wheel. Steelskin Scarring is top notch, since you get to draw 2 cards if you trash it by means of Patchworks ability, so why play it?
As for the resources, 3x Daily Casts and 3x Liberated Account will provide you with plenty money, especially if you can install them for a 2 credits discount. There is no point in Adjusted Chronotype showing up early, when you didn't find the crucial Wyldside yet, so 2 copies is fine here. Same Old Things purpose is clear; you want to recycle your cards by using Levy AR Lab Access in the late game. You get to see your whole Heap once more, trashing obsolete cards for discounts on playing/installing money cards.
I have some doubts about Bukhgalter; I wanted to include at least 2 copies, but 4 influence each is pretty hefty. On the other hand, what Killer would be better suited to this deck? And what else would I use the extra influence on? Maybe some R&D pressure cards, but The Turning Wheel seems to fulfill that purpose nicely. Since I have Docklands Pass, I use Turning Wheel counters on HQ runs seldomly. As for Paperclip and Buzzsaw, they are absolutely great together with Leech and Ice Carver. With their help, Paperclip cuts through Barriers for as many credits as they have subroutines, Code Gates only take a credit per 2 subroutines, and Buzzsaws strength limit has never been an issue.
Any thoughts? Would really appreciate if you let me know!
