MWL Nexus Kate

magikot 1992

An MWL legal Nexus Kate deck.

Nexus is a wonderful, albeit expensive, console. It allows you to run into ice without fear, knowing that you can either bypass it or bounce off at the cost of taking a tag. If the corp rezzes ice, they then need to pay even more to boost the strength of the trace to keep you out, making the console a tax on the corp.

Opus is your primary source of economy. Though Kate's built in reduction, Modded, and Sure Gamble are there to further bolster your credit pool, ensuring you always have enough to beat any trace the corp presents.

Between Diesel, Quality Time, Earthrise Hotel, Self-modifying Code, Trade-In and Rabbit Hole, you will burn through your deck very quickly finding the pieces you need to set up. This is why I've included Faust. Anything you don't need right now fuels your runs and Same Old Thing and Levy reset your deck so you can do it all over again.

Speaking of Faust, let's talk about the breaker suite. Since the MWL will cause Shaper to pay for Lady, I swapped what would have been 2 copies of Lady for a Corroder. It's the same influence cost and in Kate it's a 2 str Fracter for 1 credit. You don't get more efficient than that. Zu, in addition to being installed for free, is also zero memory in the deck. Atman and Faust can take care of several threats while you get your other breakers out. David being backed up by 3 copies of scavenge will stick around for a very long time, taking care of the biggest ice.

Trade-In acts as Plascrete number two or the third copy of Nexus. Though memory is tight early on, since a full rig is 7 memory, if you do need to search up either of the two with trade in, you can safely sacrifice an Akamatsu Mem Chip.

Other cards to consider:

Power Tap - Freeing up the influence and deck spaces for 2-3 copies of this card should be fairly easy to do, even if it means going to 46 cards. Gaining credits on a run is a very Criminal thing to do, but effectively pushing you to seven or eight link can't be over stated. Turn the corp's Ash into your very own Security Testing and still get to access! Since it takes three traces before it pays for itself, this could be a slight tempo hit for even more aggression later.

Test Run - a single copy wouldn't be a bad idea to act as Opus #7 (yes, that is how badly you want to find this card early).

Nerve Agent - Only two influence and can take Faust's spot easily enough giving you access to HQ multi-access. Forces the corp to build three varied ice towers instead of putting all of their strongest ice on one or two servers and they need to sacrifice their turn to clear virus counters.

Lady - 2x Lady is the same influence cost as the Corroder and will fit very comfortably into a 46 card version of this deck and will be another target for Scavenge.

Clot - Though I'm not terribly worried about Fast Advance because my local meta is very diverse, putting Clot into the deck over Faust would be a very good call if you are flooded with Astrobiotics.

I might consider making room for a Cyber-Cypher too, especially with 3 Scavenge in the deck. Zu is fine, but not really a great code gate breaker, and even with the Nexus larger code gates can be taxing.
