Obligatory Professor Deck

cpsubrian 167

Some cool interactions here.

  • Eureka + Test Run
  • Motivation + Eureka
  • Motivation + Oracle May
  • Freelance + Clone Chip (or Test Run)
    • Note: You only need to trash 2 programs for freelance = sure gamble
  • Monolith! (most importantly, avoid brain/net damage)
  • Scavenge + Femme|Imp|Anything

Mulligan for Test Run or Opus (and if you're stuck with a diesel you have an ok chance to draw Test Run or Opus

At that point you have to just react to the situation. The immense amount of recursion means you can run with little to no fear (so long as you have a hand). End game is probably getting medium or nerve agent going. Keyhole against scary R&D decks.

Need a meat damage answer .. not sure what that is.

I am in no way able to add any suggestions (noob), so just questions: a) Monolith - how do you pay for this thing? I only see 3 Freelances, Oracle and Magnum. Even with Same Old Thing, does Econ like this work? Seems light to me. b) Lots of Viruses here - isn't that kinda iffy, especially in a more reactionary deck? Meaning that I took the Prof to lend itself to react to situations with the best possible Program there and then. Viruses, on the other hand, take time...

Questions, because I just today uploaded my own version of the Prof, and try to improve the deck even further... :)

a) Monolith - how do you pay for this thing?

Also see Eureka!

On the topic of eureka, I don't really see that as an 'econ' card so much as a "my hand is too big and programs in my heap is OK .. so lets get some cash too'.

b) b) Lots of Viruses here

I'm on the fence about datasucker. Medium and Nerve agent are awesome when you know you can get in a lot .. which this aims to do with efficient breakers and opus fueling runs. Imp is generally just good to have (counters San-San and other expensive assets, as well as pluck combo cards from their hand).

Parasite is just a must-have in any deck with recursion. There is plenty of strength 0 and 1 ice that you just want to get off the table.

Hope that answers some questions. I've not tested this deck much (though I did used to run a Monolith Chaos Theory deck with some similar set ups).

Err .. I mean Freelance when I was talking about the hand size thing.

Eureka + Monolith seems fantastic, but how do you get Monolith on top of the Deck? You must rely on luck of the draw, then, or did I miss an effect where you can put a card back on top of the deck other than a program?

Granted, Imp is fantastic. Also toyed with Datasucker, Nerve Agent and Medium, and decided they would take too much time to work properly. But maybe that's just me. Still a noob, anyways.

Jupp, figured. Regarding SanSan counter - included Chakana for that. Next to Parasite the only Virus I employed. Don't know how well it will work out... ...dammit, now you got me thinking about Monolith myself, and if I can pull it off somehow... :)

Yup, it will be luck of the draw ... but monolith isn't strictly needed for the deck to function (a single cyber chip will hold you over for a while). And if you draw both early then levy might help you get it later on.

Toolbox is definitely an interesting substitute and still combos well with eureka if you can pull it off.

I need to fit plascrete in here really, but don't want to dilute programs unless I have to. Technically its already a couple cards over.

This seems like an interesting deck, and viable. I would consider thinking about either Modded or Personal Workshop to speed up installs. Also, you might want to think out ProCon for both draw and econ. Sahasrara might be a good card for this deck as well (because you need more programs).

I would probably run either Medium or Keyhole, but probably not both.

I'm also not sold on monolith being work the trouble of getting it out. I see the Motivation/Eureka combo to make it work, but you would still need to be holding four programs + Eureka when you see it to make it 'worth it'. I think you might be better off with Toolbox.

As a meat damage answer and/or help for your Eureka/Monolith combo you might consider Public Sympathy for this deck. Though I'm generally not a fan I think it works here.

Modded or Personal Workshop

I was thinking about those .. but I don't think they really speed it up that much. WIth an Opus out, modded costs two clicks to gain three credits and a click. Those two clicks could have just been spent getting 4 credits.

Personal workshop is interesting .. but I actually think I want all my programs in the heap, where I can get to them with TestRun/CloneChip/Scavange.

Medium or Keyhole

They combo so well together .. and this is the only deck where the influence doesn't get in the way :) I see it like this, you establish your board position with the right breakers and whatnot .. then you can make alternating runs with medium and keyhole to see like twice as many cards (and the keyholes runs put counters on medium).

Monolith

Agreed on monolith .. I think the only thing it has going for it over Toolbox is brain damage prevention ... but the cost is probably too high. I've already made the swap behind the scenes.

Meat damage

Alas I'll eventually probably just toss plascrete in .. but so boring :) Public sympathy would work better if I ran more draw (like the ProCon you suggested).

If this plays out like I think it might .. my whole rig might change from one turn to the next ... for a couple turns I'm hammering your R&D with medium ... then wham I scavenge medium for sneakdoor and play out a nerve agent and now your hand belongs to me.

I see your general point, but keep in mind that if you have been running medium, you know what is in my hand so switching doesn't make a lot of sense. Probably the reverse would be a better play. Also, now that you have brought up Nerve Agent, the Pheromones/Personal Workshop combo could be pretty powerful in this deck.
