[Eternal] bOba Fett - 5-0 Undefeated at COS-E

One half of the combo deck tag-team that carried me to an undefeated record and The Threat Three to 6th place at the Crown of Servers Extravaganza at Worlds 2023. Notable bounties taken by bOba over the course of the weekend included:

• Andrej of Metropole Grid fame, killed on turn 4
  
• icecoldjazz, NSG President, killed on turn 3
  
• Ysengrin, Worlds head judge and acting head of Organised play, killed on turn 4
  
• anarchomushroom, one of the balance leads for Eternal, killed on turn 4
  

Despite the impressive record, this was really just the companion piece to the runner deck, the instantly-infamous infinite Deva Wu deck which wowarlock and I put together from an idea of koga's. None of my games on either side went longer than turn 6, and including the GLC Eternal League game anarcho and I played on Sunday I was 12-0 in Eternal for the weekend. Not bad.

If you don't know how this list works, see anarcho's list for the rundown - the only significant change here is the addition of Gaslights, which really pushes the deck over the edge. With smart use of Ob triggers you can chain your 9 instant-trash cards (Cyberdex, Moon, Mark, AAL) into each other or into any combo piece while drawing cards and making bank along the way. It's impressively consistent and resilient to disruption - Clan Vengeance Whizzard is in theory the worst matchup, but I beat it twice at COS-E, through disruptive currents, without slowing down the kill by more than a turn. Boot Camp is the secret MVP here, both allowing you to rez bonus cards for MAD and go back up the cost curve in your search chain if you need to e.g. turn Marky Mark into a butler.

I did a lot more prep for Eternal than for Standard, but I was pleased to get to play all 9 rounds of the main event and just about scrape a winning record at 10-8. Check out my 14 inf Sable and my Too Big To Fail PD if you like.

• Not_Yeti: This man put in a shift over the weekend, providing invaluable help for the stream team several times at short notice while playing Ob and Sable to within a couple games of cut contention. I have so many wonderful memories from this holiday and this event, but seeing you absolutely thrive was genuinely the best part. So proud of you bud.
• Havvy: The Legend from Lowestoft showed his quality once again this weekend. It is not an exaggeration to say that Worlds could not have happened without the tireless work of this man. I was so impressed by your dedication but even more so by your self-reflection throughout the stress of the event. If this was indeed your OP swansong, it was truly the best note to go out on. Rest up, you've earned it!
• Lyon & ZomB: My teammates in The Threat Three. We cobbled together our team relatively last minute and did no real prep - and on top of that Lyon's luggage got lost by his airline so he had to play with borrowed decks all weekend. Despite those challenges you both played very very well all day on Friday and it was a real pleasure to bring home the top 8 finish with you.
• wowarlock: I thanked you several times over the weekend, but I'll say it again: getting to break Eternal with you live and in person was a true joy and I am very grateful that you shared it with me. Here's to breaking more formats in the future!
• Brindelmold: Walking back to the flat watching the final on your phone and losing our minds over those last few turns is another memory I will hold onto for a long time. Also was stoked to see your art get such an incredible reaction over the weekend - a true talent that will continue to be recognised in the community for a long time.
• monde & marbles: Two of my favourite discord friends and commentary partners became meatspace friends at Casa Rius. It was so exciting to see you both do so well in the main event. And you both give excellent hugs!
• Tanzzen, KamiKami, ClickOneRun, Fridan: Hey, for a handful of nerds from lil old Norwich we sure know how to have a great holiday. Very grateful that all of you are in my life on the regular.
• NSG: All my NSG colleagues, those I met and those I missed out on meeting - we do literally the coolest thing in the world. Rock on.
• EA SPORTZ: Is only game.
• Jim Jam Josh: The one and only. He know not what he do.
• Jasper: El Capitano, bringer of falafel and 'fixer' of tote bags - love ya.
  
  

I've been to many international card game tournaments over the past decade or so, but even compared to a long list of incredible events this one felt really special. PSK and her team created a wonderful thing and every one involved should be so, so proud of their work.
