Baba Yaga Smoke

Nick! 144

Aghora =Baba Yaga (Same Cost/Same Influence)

Identity: I had a hard time deciding which Identity to run this out of, but I believe the 40 minimum is a must to ensure quicker setup. That left the options of Smoke, Chaos Theory, and Kit. Kit is out due to low influence, and I wound up picking Smoke because 1 credit per turn (if you run) is better than 1 memory. Rebirth is added in for an early game change to Kate/Hayley or late game change to Jesminder if Data Raven has/will make an appearance.

Programs: I toyed with playing Stealth, but playing non-Stealth requires less set up and fewer occupied card slots. Baba Yaga must be installed first. With 3 Self Modifying Code and 3 Baba Yaga, you have a 58% chance of drawing one of those into your opening hand, and an 82% chance with the mulligan. Gordian Blade pumps your strength 1 for 1 for the entire run and breaks Code Gate subs for 1 apiece. Inti breaks Barrier subs for 1 apiece and Mimic breaks Sentry subs for 1 apiece. Turing and Swordsman are the only 2 ICE that cannot currently be broken by AI breakers, and Baba Yaga is an AI breaker. Gordian Blade breaks Turing, on a remote server for 4 and Turing, on a central server, for 1. Mimic breaks Swordsman for 2. Your entire breaker suite is installed for 12.

Resources: Temujin is great, everyone knows that! Use Same Old Thing to recur Modded for cheaper installs, Levy if it gets sniped from your hand, your Current if need be, and Maker's Eye for deep digs into R&D. Sacrificial Construct is included to prevent Baba Yaga from being trashed. Daddy always said, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket!" Personal Workshop saves you some money and will help if you don't draw into Baba Yaga/SMC in your first few turns, but you have your other Breakers in hand. Install the other Breakers on Personal Workshop, but don't let them get to zero. Install a hardware or extra breakers, if needed, to slow the required breakers once they get to 1 counter.

Hardware: Drawing will be a necessity until your rig is setup. Astrolabe draws for free. R&D interface can get installed for free through Personal Workshop or for 1 with Modded.

Events: Dirty Laundry is great by itself or paired with a run on the Temujin server. Levy is great if you’re playing against Net/Meat Damage or for the long game to reset your Temujin, Dirty Laundy, and Sure Gamble economy. Use Modded for cheaper installs and Rebirth into Kate for cheaper set up, Hayley for quicker setup, or Jesminder if tag avoidance is needed. Rebirth isn't a necessity, though. Smoke's recurring credit essentially means Baba Yaga has a base strength of 1 for the first run. Sure Gamble is here, obviously, and The Maker's Eye, paired with 2 R&D Interfaces will show you 5 cards from R&D. You're almost guaranteed to see at least 1 agenda. For my current, I have Traffic Jam, since it's a wild card and can really throw the Corp off of their game. Net Celebrity could be used for 1 recurring credit or maybe “Freedom Through Equality” when you know a Maker's Eye run is coming. In testing, the full rig can usually be set up in 5-6 turns. If you don’t have Astrolabe installed yet, you will have to click for draws and you will need to watch the order you install your breakers. With Baba Yaga installed hosting 1 program, you are at 2 memory. If you host a second breaker, you will be at 3 and you prevent yourself from being able to install Self Modifying Code. Wait to install your last 2 breakers until 1) you have both in hand, 2) you have 1 breaker and an SMC in hand, or 3) until Astrolabe is installed. Let me know if you have any thoughts/suggestions!

So this is no longer "Baba Yaga Smoke"?

Well the deck at least starts as Smoke! I would imagine at least half will finish that way too. Only Rebirth when it's beneficial. Other than Kate early and Jes after setup is done there aren't many beneficial options

I decided to try Andromeda and am using these breakers: Faerie, Yog.0 and Breach. We'll see how it works out!

As an aside, I think a Dagger to free up influence wouldn't be a bad choice.

Maybe, but then I'd have to add in Cloak/Net Mercur and a different console for memory issues. Only thing I considered changing was replacing Mimic with Pipeline to save the influence, but Mimic starts with +2 strength.

I know you avoided stealth, but I think including Houdini here is worthwhile. With only the 1 stealth credit from smoke, plus one real credit, you pump your breaker to strength 6 for the rest of the run. Seems good.

The other option is to include a sharpshooter - 1cr for +2 strength is nice.

Cool idea. Agree with @Phoenix on Houdini. Smoke's single cred is good enough alongside Net Mercur, which can also be used as a draw accelerator in the early game. As a note, IP Block and Bulwark also AI hate cards

@Phoenix "1 stealth credit from smoke, plus one real credit, you pump your breaker to strength 6 for the rest of the run" - to strength 4, baba yaga only gains paid abilities, not the strength of the icebreaker hosted, but yes houdini seems pretty good here

Am I crazy or would The Personal Touch be good here?

@MakersEyebrow Have you thought about doing this in crim it strikes me that Baba Yaga would work very nicely with the central breaker's & Faerie

@Pinkwarrior I actually just posted a new deck out of Andy with the same thought! netrunnerdb.com
