1st Attempt - Core + Cyber Exodus

hans0016 1

This is my first go at creating a shaper deck for casual play (I'm brand new to the game, only have the original core set and Cyber Exodus), and I've gleaned a bit from Team Covenant's shaper deck in their tutorials and what I have available. I'm looking for a straight and simple shaper deck that focuses on running R & D or other central servers and can directly influence the ice and icebreaker strength.

Any thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated.

Initially, I don't think Rabbit Hole is necessary, and I'm not ENTIRELY sure about Dinosaurus even though it fits the "flavor" of the deck with strength manipulation on runs.

Would The Toolbox actually be a better idea than Dinosaurus?

I'm looking at nine MU (if everything was out), but can cover 7 safely with The Toolbox and Chaos Theory: Wünderkind's extra.

Hi, some thoughts:

  1. Why Rabbit Hole? Do you need links? I don't see why you want to add them? Underworld Contact would be a good reason, but I don't see them in your deck.
  2. I assume you want Magnum Opus as your economy, but why you want to play without Dirty Laundry if you have Datasucker?
  3. Dinosaurus is a funny console - but without Self-modifying Code or Clone Chip it's rather useless. It has some value with Test Run.
  4. Consider adding Retrieval Run if you can for nice Femme tricks.
  5. Net Shield can help A LOT in match against PE. Crash Space can save your skin against Scorched Earth - with 5 cards you will survive 2x Scorched Earth - Plascrete Carapace is better, but Crash Space is in Core set.
  6. Snare! can be deadly, same with big access if you run into Shock!.

All excellent points. The only rub is that I only have the (original) core set and the Cyber Exodus data pack, so I'm making this work with what I have! I don't think Rabbit Hole is necessary at all without the Underworld Contact combo, though, so I agree with you there. Not sure what to replace them with, however...

Since you have Cyber Exodus, I think you should swap out your Rabbit Holes and the Battering Rams for a set of 3 Personal Workshop because it would be an excellent economy card for your deck.

Then you probably want to shave off some influence somewhere to find room for some number of Stimhack (I can't remember how many the original core had off the top of my head). If you didn't know, you can spend Stimhack credits during the run to bring things off of Personal Workshop. This would even let you play things like The Toolbox and bring it into play affordably. You could try something like -1 Medium, -1 Datasucker, + 2 Stimhack, +1 Corroder.

This way, your primary rig is MO, and a breaker of each type, which will fit within your default 5MU. You don't have to worry so much about drawing into MU chips or your Console. You'd still have 2 Corroders in case one gets trashed, but you don't have to waste slots on Battering Ram (which is almost always less efficient to break with, in addition to costing more credits/MU upfront). You can still host Medium or other utility programs on Personal Workshop while you look for the MU cards to support it, just don't let it tick down to 0 where it forces the install (and thus, any programs you'd have to trash to not exceed your MU limit).

Thank you very much. Excellent suggestions. Modifying it and I’ll take a gander at it later. Should I swap one of the Dinosaurus for The Toolbox??

Well Dinosaurus and The Toolbox are both consoles and you can only have one installed. I'd say go with your gut and just play whichever one you think is cooler, but I wouldn't bother including two different consoles.
