I've always had a really hard time piloting Criminal decks. First, big plus is that it's got the draw efficiency of Diesel. Yeah, it's a priority event, so it's not strictly as efficient as Diesel, but it's still great. As a side benefit, you can use this to screw the corp as necessary. If HQ is full, now they'll have 9 cards in hand at the start of their turn. If HQ is empty, now they're a prime target for Legwork, or Sneakdoor + HQI buggery.

Force them to add new cards to HQ faster than they want, and then start slamming into it for those sweet sweet points. All the while, you're drawing into your tools to get in easier. Just awesome.

Looks like old school Gabe will be making a comeback! (especially if we see more rush and remote play as well) —
Put three of these in a Noise deck and you've just milled an additional 9 cards out of HQ. —

This card is mostly punishing HB and NBN since they are the only factions with 6 3/2's available to them Accelerated Beta Test & Project Vitruvius, AstroScript Pilot Program & Project Beale.

Seems best played once the corp has scored 4 or 5 points (depending on the spread). There's definitely something to be said about forcing your opponent to score a 3/1, 3/2, 4/2, or 5/3 as a 4/1, 4/2, 5/2, or 6/3...

Don't forget turning 2/1s, i.e. Hostile, Clone Retirement and Breaking News into 3/1s, as well as turning the third Astroscript into a 5/2 if the corp has already scored the first two ;). —
Don't forget Project Atlas. —
Atlas doesn't care as much about Traffic Jam; it's still a 4/2 that gives you a clickless tutor with or without Traffic Jam. —
Yeah, both Vitruvius and Atlas don't get punished as badly if the Corp already intends to over-score them. And yes Icey, messing up Hostiles is a big deal. I'm not too worried about Breaking News, most NBN decks only ever intend to score 1 anyways... —

Pros

Cons

  • Wasn't printed as Anarch card to help them save on influence.

Pros

Cons

  • Can only break 3 subroutines.
  • High influence cost of 4.
  • Doesn't self trash (for Test Run, Clone Chip) when empty.
I really wonder why this program doesn't have the subtype Icebreaker, since this is essentially what it does... —
I imagine it would be too confusing when it came time to deal with adding strength to something that doesn't need strength to operate. —
More importantly you wouldn't be able to host it on Djinn. —
Also, it's not an AI so it passess stuff like Turing. —
Note that the 4 and 1 in "D4V1D" are replacing the letters A and I. Also, this is clearly a reference (4+1=5, amirite?) to the character Da5id in Neal Stephenson's "Snow Crash". —
Yeah, icebreakers need a strength equal to or higher than the strength of the ICE they are targeting in order to be allowed to interact with it at all, which kind of defeats the point of this card. That said, not being an icebreaker leads to some weird interactions with certain corp cards that target icebreakers... —
Does removing a power counter from D4V1D count as using a program? Wondering about how it interacts with Vikram 1.0 in a situation where you want to let the first sub of Vikram fire. —
Hey GoldenHawk: —
Oops, I hope that didn't mess up! Accidentally clicked enter before I wrote the answer. Paid abilities (such as breaking subroutines with D4v1d) count as "using" programs. I believe there is a definition of "use" in the FAQ or possible on ANCUR's Unofficial FAQ. I would venture that anything that doesn't happen automatically counts as use. Like "using" recurring credits on Multithreader. —
It's like Grappling Hook, in that it breaks subroutines without being an ice breaker. It doesn't need to match the strength of the ice encountered. —
Does Navi Mumbai City Grid turn this off and prevent them spending Hosted Counters? —
Gilbod, yes, it does. —

Pros

  • Increases cost to access your servers by (under most circumstances) 1 per Ice on a server.
  • No influence cost if in-faction currents aren't very good.
  • Turns off runner current. So far this hasn't been a huge concern since corporation currents are more powerful as of writing this review (end of Lunar Cycle). This will become increasingly important once runner Currents start to surpass the strength of Net Celebrity.

Cons

  • Increased tax is dependant on Ice and Icebreaker suite of both players. Against common fixed strength breakers like Mimic, a Tsurugi or Komainu will not cost more to get through.
  • Historically hasn't proved worthy of deck space. Deck space is extremely tight, and adding a tax of 1-3 at the cost of a card in your deck is tough to justify.
This should be great against: Şifr :) —
I guess not (Şifr) :( —
