1st Place Regional Brussels (22p): DDOS BULLSHIT

DDOS BULLSHIT

This is the deck that I played during the regional in Brussels (22p). It went 4-0 just as my corp. After seeing Elodius kicking ass with this deck in two other tournament and casual meetups, I decided to give it a swing. First time I saw a similar deck on netrunnerdb, I thought the deck was funny but too slow and not consistent. But boy was I wrong. This deck is pretty fast and very hard to win against.

CARD CHOICES

Freedom Through Equality: Keyhole 6 points, FTE win. Most of the times it's not needed but it's safer than trying to find another agenda with keyhole.

Escher: If they can rez some ICE, move it away from R&D. Didn't use it, but it's a solid silver bullet.

2 councilman: I really don't like checking every remote vs NEH

The Turning Wheel instead of medium: First of all it frees up 2 influence and it's only slightly worse. Yes if you use it on R&D you'll only see half of the cards you would see with medium. But if you don't win with 10+ keyhole runs, it might mean that somebody is hiding some agendas in HQ. Turning Wheel says hi. Also it can save a councilman against CVS. It's slightly anti synergistic with False echo on HQ but it's fine.

Clot: Why I needed 2 extra influence. With all the Fastro going around this is necessary. Even just the threat in combination with councilman can buy you turns. Just play it guys, don't be greedy.

No levy: Just don't forget you only play 2 DDOS, and keep one back for the big turn.

TOURNAMENT

Round 1 vs NEH fastro

I'am building, he's scoring. I can't clot because I'm too poor to councilman the CVS. He scores his third astro and I start my game. Bunch of keyholes into FTE into win.

4 points

Round 2 vs NEH fastro

He scores a naked astro turn two. Oh god it's one of those guys. Somehow I manage to score a palooza along the way with DDOS. He gets to 5 points with a token. I decide to wait one more turn, so I can get the maximum out of my power turn. The first card he installs I clot (respecting SfSS) and he defends it with ICE. I keyhole into victory. Btw the defended card was a Sensie actors union, I like that play mate.

Round 3 vs BABW

We are the two only peole with 8, and we both know that we'll easily make the cut if we ID. We play against each other every week, and there's no reason to take any risks or even being responsable that your friend misses the cut. So we go outside a have a nice chat and talk about how stupid ID is.

10 points

Round 4 vs CI

4 people on ten points equals a nice chat outside. Let's just say we realised too late that somebody brought mainframe.

Top 8 part 1 corp win

Top 8 part 2 vs BABW consulting Midseason

My friend from round 3 again. He had the smart plan to choose runner first game, so he had less chance of playing vs my gagarin. He's playing my list with a few tweaks but he also knows what i'm up to. We both know this is going to get weird. He starts by getting rich turn one, more creds than i can ever gather. I just build. He plays it correctly. He starts to rush and I realise that I cant steal agenda, but nothing stoppes me from SMC into keyhole since he didn't protect his R&D yet. While I manage to keyhole 5 points, I can't collect them because i've to respect the follow up. I wish I saw a midseason there so I could keyhole that instead. All my work is useless because he finds jackson and ICE for R&D. He starts rushing And when he has one GFI one Hostile he install advances. Knowing the deck that has to be Atlas. Thanks to Fan site I get my 13 clicks, steal the atlas, Keyhole and win.

Top 8 part 3 corp win

Top 8 part 4 vs NEH

Finals vs ronzacapa who dominates the Belgian meta. Already had a nerve-wracking game with gagarin against him, so I was hoping to end this with Kate so the second game was no longer needed. Both of us are having a bad start. He doesn't find agendas and I don't find econ. On top of that I only see quality time as draw power, not really what I want to see man. So i just have to click for cards en credits the hard way. Meantime he fast tracks an astro with an unrezzed sansan on the board. I click for credit, install DDOS, pop it and run twice on his 5 card hand. Don't see the astro but get a GFI. Not what I was looking for, but hey I'll take it. He scores astro and slams agenda out untill he's on 5 points. I got my full combo (without TTW) and the best thing is that I don't need to install a single card from my hand. So I've 13 clicks to cause some mayhem. I keyhole 9 times find 4 points (R&D was actually loaded), click for a credit, click for a credit, play freedom through equality and run archives.

Tournament win with double ID and almost no interaction, yeah

Did you use any Hyperdrivers for setup? Or do you use them for that one big turn?

27 Jun 2016 ryanbantwins

Yeah, I only use them for the big turn. That's why I need 3 leprechaum in my deck, because at one point I want all 3 of them installed. 2 on leprechaum and one just eating 3 MU.

You kinda need 3 hyperdrivers in your big turn. 2 is doable, but I prefer 3. If you have to make choices on where to spend creds on it's more important than TTW or FTE.

Congrats!!

@ryanbantwins Interesting take on the DDOS/False Echo decks. How do you find money in the deck as I often find I am too poor at times?

27 Jun 2016 ryanbantwins

@rotage Yeah, the econ can be really narrow. That's why I decided to have a 46th card for extra econ. I tried an armitage codebusting, but it might have been too slow with all the NEH I was expecting. So I decided to go with a dirty laundry instead. This is also better imo because it makes it less painfull to check remotes sometimes.

The most important thing is just no to waste money. Try to get as many Kate triggers on both turns. Don't waste time and creds on assets. Only sensie should go, but even that is not written in stone.

Even then you might be short on credits. So you'll just have to click for a credit like in the good old times. Most of the time I was a few credits poorer than I wanted to be to fire my combo. But the essential 13 click combo is actually pretty cheap, TTW and FTE are extra options you can go for to improve your chances IF you have the time for it.

I can attest this deck is a beast, I was surprised how fast you managed to set up! How about a film critic or two to help in your big turn to steal The Future is Now or vs Haarpsichord ?

28 Jun 2016 ryanbantwins

Yeah the speed is weirdly enough pretty fast. I mean it can keep up with fastro, that's so good.

Film critic would be a solid include I feel confident enough to steal the TFP (think you mean this one :p ) if I have enough clicks left. And the point is even most Palana decks turned away from including it. I gotta admit I kinda forgot about Haarp. But I guess as long as you don't play in Germany it should be fine because that matchup is almost unwinnable :p. But even with a film critic a 20 agenda haarp is kinda gg already.

I am still very new to netrunner, and can't rly wrap my head around how you would pilot this effectively. I had to look twice to make sure that you didn't include a single breaker. How do play this? One rezzed ice in front of rnd and the game is basically over no?

I understand I may be missing something entirely here. Thanks.

@konicki Yes, but that's sort of the whole point - look at DDoS and False Echo - the point is that on the turn you trigger DDoS, if you use False Echo on a piece of ICE it has to go back to hand (because they can't choose to rez it), which means the next ICE becomes the outermost, is affected by DDoS, can get Echoed, etc. That way, you strip all the ICE from RnD on the first run, making all future keyholes free.
